Party officials and strategists believe that if Trump wins Iowa, Rubio's path to the nomination is clearer.
To many outÂside obÂservÂers, the wave of seasoned ReÂpubÂlicÂan ofÂfiÂcials and strategists soundÂing inÂcreasÂingly comÂfortÂable with DonÂald Trump as the GOP's presÂidÂenÂtial nomÂinÂee is a sign of surÂrender. WhethÂer it's Iowa Gov. Terry BranÂstad rootÂing for Ted Cruz to lose the Iowa caucuses or OrÂrin Hatch "comÂing around a little bit" on Trump's canÂdidÂacy or the paucity of money spent atÂtackÂing Trump on the airÂwaves, it feels like ofÂfiÂcial WashÂingÂton has sided with Trump over Cruz.
In realÂity, many are tryÂing to salÂvage the camÂpaign of Sen. Marco RuÂbio (or any othÂer more-mainÂstream alÂternÂatÂive), and are betÂting that it's easiÂer to deÂfeat Trump in a one-on-one showÂdown than Cruz emÂboldened by a strong showÂing in Iowa. To diÂminÂish Trump at this point, ReÂpubÂlicÂan strategist Alex CasÂtelÂlanos wrote in an email Monday, "perÂversely helps both Cruz and Trump, which is not what many conÂserÂvatÂives inÂtend."
The thinkÂing goes as folÂlows: If Cruz loses Iowa, he peters out in New HampÂshire and doesn't pose a risk of finÂishÂing in a reÂspectÂable second place. That alÂlows the esÂtabÂlishÂment winÂner out of the GranÂite State to build moÂmentum as the anti-Trump alÂternÂatÂive. A deÂcent numÂber of Cruz's supÂportÂers, when asked to choose a second canÂdidÂate, gravÂitÂate to RuÂbio. Polls show many more of Trump supÂportÂers, by conÂtrast, would supÂport Cruz. And even with Trump's imÂprovÂing faÂvorÂabÂilÂity numÂbers withÂin the GOP, there are more ReÂpubÂlicÂan voters who wouldn't vote for him unÂder any cirÂcumÂstances than say the same about the senÂatÂor from Texas....

When you play with fire, you get burned.
Thanks for the laugh!!!
Maybe we should attend Trump University and discover how Donny ran Trump Shuttle.
Yup. That’s the GOP strategy alright. They have to knock off one of the two front runners first, then they’ll gang up and concentrate all their big bucks and GOP firepower to take out the other. Cruz is the easier target so he gets the GOP shaft first. And they’re betting that the Cruz supporters would rather go for Rubio than Trump so they’ll help give the GOP shaft to Trump.
Say hello to amnesty pushing Bruto Rubio, the next true blue GOPe RINO loser if they succeed.
I pray that both Cruz and Trump remain the strong front runners and keep Rubio, Kasich and Bush way down in the single digits to the bitter end.
Smarty ;-)
I agree with that. No doubt about it.
Yes, I “know” that method works.
But IT WILL NOT HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE>
If the method “works” it HAS TO BE “workable.”
Now, the good news is that computers are 100% predictable (Jim sighs, wishes that were true) so any single repeatable action is repeatable automatically.
You mean Christian behavior like having an anti-Christ cultist giving a 90 minute Social Justice sermon at your rally? You mean like carrying around a Mormon idol around in your pocket for a day? That Christian behavior.
I like Cruz, but he is running a terrible campaign.
Pray America wakes
Trump is self-funded too, so there is not very much the GOPe can do to stop the big money donors, but they can probably hurt Cruz.
I was paid to write a computer program in 1965. The first “word processor” I used was a WPS-8 from Digital Equipment Corporation in 1978. So it is just experience, not necessary smarts. ;-)
The Establishment is fine with Trump; it’s Cruz they HATE. That’s what happens when you don’t play the Establishment’s game.
I stand by my original assessment ;-)
That’s really cool, btw.
Thanks!
LOL!
Well said, it’s exactly what they’re trying to do.
The crazy extra symbols are so bad and they are really terrible in this article, I have to click through to the original article on that website to read every article posted even if the whole article is on here.
When I make a post, I do not use contraction of words, such as, “don’t”. I type, “I do not” instead and I take the contractions out of any quotes of others I post. I will see if this post has extra symbols in the contraction. This really needs to be fixed some way, some how.
Why is Trump playing the GOP game, Jim? Why the scorched earth, sow the ground with salt attack on Cruz?
Does he think Cruz supporters will come flocking to him if he drives Ted from the field?
He’s not a nice guy. Has probably learned that nice guys finish last.
The banners of Nationalism and Patriotism were thrown to the floor by Bush the elder in exchange for a “new world order”. They have remained there for 25 years and the GOP never deigned to pick them up. Trump just did the obvious.
At the end of it all, it may be his fatal flaw. Burnt bridges can be difficult, if not impossible to cross over on.
