Iowa Governor Terry Branstad Basically Endorses Ted Cruz
Red State ^ | January 19, 2016 | Leon H. Wolf

Of course, to hear Branstad say it, what he actually said was that he hopes Ted Cruz loses. The problem with Branstad's jeremiad against Cruz is that Brandstad is everything that is wrong with both the Republican Party and the political class in the country as a whole. The fecklessness and self-dealing of Terry Branstad would put any fat cat Republican Senator in the caucus to shame.

It's the shameless behavior of people like Branstad who have given rise to the Trump/Cruz phenomenon in the first place. Basically, at the end of the day, Republican voters have shown that they want exactly the opposite of whatever people like Terry Branstad stands for. So when Branstad says he wants Cruz to lose, well. I don't know how that will translate in Iowa, but I know that across the country, this is taken by most Republican voters as a de facto endorsement of the Cruz candidacy.

Branstad's galling crony capitalism - highlighted by the fact that his son is a prominent ethanol lobbyist and that he himself is virtually guaranteed a profitable sinecure with an ethanol lobbying firm upon his eventual retirement - has already been remarked upon frequently. Branstad himself declared before the primary season began, in refreshingly open language, that he would oppose any Republican candidate who opposed the renewable fuel standard because if one of them won, that might shut off the flow of federal pork to Iowa:

"I think it is a significant issue," Mr. Branstad told The Washington Times. "If you are for closing that industry down and don't want to give them access [to the market], I think that could be a very difficult thing to explain to the people who live in the state and really believe in renewable fuels."(continued)

For conservatives, yes he did.

For the zombies, issues and facts don’t matter.

I’m for Trump, but this is shameful. Typical of the Iowa mentality. If they could require every American to only eat corn they would. Total whores.

Its disgusting that such a place is always first in the list.

Hee hee.

Branstad tells Iowans to dump Cruz...but that is a backhanded endorsement of Cruz.

I can't wait for the stock market to collapse even more...I will be so rich (well, in Cruz world).

I am for Trump.........

It seems like the zombies support him no matter what.

Sad, this site used to be rock solid conservative, now half seem like Obama robots did in 2008.

Apparently he’s somewhat popular in Iowa. If he had endorsed Cruz you would be singing his praises.

Exactly.

The Iowa economy is built on the corruption of the marketplace by the politically corrupt elite.

I opposed it as an Iowa resident and I oppose it just as much as a non-Iowa resident. I once managed to out ol Grassley and Brandysted on an Iowa call in talk show.

But honestly, they have owned the game for decades, and it is never discussed in polite Iowa society.

Iowan here.

I have a cousin here in Iowa that farms over 1000 acres, hires several men to help him work it all, and before he started farming earned some sort of business/econ degree. He is a lover of freedom, and when I was much younger he explained to me the bad economics of subsidies.

Don’t believe everything you read, nor hear from a handful of politicians...

I used to not buy ethanol gas because of the subsidies. Yeah, it was cheaper at the pump by a dime or two per gallon. But each gallon probably cost more than that in govt payout, so I figured I was saving money in the long run by not buying ethanol.

I support Trump, because I truly believe Cruz is unelectable. But what Branstad said is despicable.

Let me repeat it so this time you understand: I do not write these articles. I find them and post them here for discussion. Got that?

I’m quite aware you don’t write them. But since you seem to post only articles that are critical of Trump or supportive of Cruz, I assume you agree with them. If you don’t you could always comment in the space provided.

BTW, I don’t include you when I refer to the Cruz or Losers. You haven’t been nasty or derogatory to Trump and his supporters the way a lot of other Cruz supporters are. I also know you were a yuge Palin supporter in 2012. Must be a tough day for you.

Iowa Governor supports federal mandate to deny me the right to purchase ethanol-free gasoline.

Ethanol is inferior to gasoline, yet costs more. Screw ethanol and the government fascists who degrade my fuel with it.
