How Ted Cruz's new immigration ad trumps Trump's
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | January 5, 2016 | Peter Grier

The ad's careful construction may be yet more proof that Sen. Ted Cruz is attempting to slipstream behind Donald Trump while snatching some of his voters.

Ted Cruz has released a new immigration-themed ad that's as hard-hitting, in its own way, as Donald Trump's recent sledgehammer of a spot. But Senator Cruz's effort is perhaps cleverer - making it seem more restrained than his bombastic rival's.

The Cruz ad starts with what one critic labels a thought experiment: What if illegal immigrants were predominantly white collar instead of laborers and other lower-skilled workers?

And that's what it depicts. With tension-raising drumbeats sounding in the background, a bunch of well-dressed executive types wade through water and race across a stubby field in slow motion. The acting and cinematography are excellent. A woman pausing to pour water out of her high heel is a particularly nice touch....

Not really. LOL

Ads are not all that effective for any of them.

Considering Trump's level of articulation, not a difficult feat.

As the British say, it is too clever by half.

I love this kind of competition, 2 people promising to defend America against a massive invasion.

Yes, Don Trump is a god. We should all acknowledge it.

It took me 15 seconds to get his point, and that only because I remember him making that same point at the debate. Meh. Don’t like Trump’s ad either, too amateurish in production.

You love Trump. You consequently hate Cruz. So of course you’re going to try to diminish anything that doesn’t pump up your candidate.

This Cruz ad is awesome. It puts your Trump ad to shame.

Post of the day!

That perfectly sums up the posting behaviors of many of the Trump Fan-Boys!

It gets so tiresome. If Don Trump is winning by the large margins trumpeted here, why worry about Ted Cruz or any other candidate?

Well, it takes 30 seconds to get even a partial grip on what Cruz's ad is about... and then you have to pay careful attention to what he is saying to get the point.

Finally you see the wall and it comes together. The message, once put together is impact-full but it takes an entire minute. Trump hits you with a right, a left and a right all in 30 seconds and signs off with his pitch phrase.

Trump approves his message quickly at the beginning and leaves on a high note... Cruz kinda standardizes with a bit of a smile. To each his own.

Obviously Trump is the point person once again and Cruz is trying to hang onto his following. My best guess is that combined they are creating an even greater gap with the establishment. Voters will have to decide if they want hard hitting or a gathering implication.

Exactly. Cruz is playing the race card.

But I wonder if the factcheckers will give the Cruz ad pinochios because of the white men in business suits crossing the border by foot.

They sure made a big deal about the border footage on the Trump ad.

Well, at least it’s comforting. No danger other than economic and then only to the guys and gals in suits. We don’t have to worry. /s
