Very interesting to look back towards 1988 to see what Donald Trump thought about being a Republican 27 years ago.

I support Cruz. Although I like a lot of what Trump says and would certainly vote for him should he win the nomination. But I still dont think he is as conservative as he talks. Although this a 27 year old interview, his agreement to be labled a “NY Republican” and a “Rockefeller Republican” might be giving us a glimpse into what a Trump presidency might really be like. So for now I am sticking with Ted Cruz, a proven conservative, proven RINO fighter and proven leftist destoyer.

Wow....thank you so much for letting us know that you could vote for Trump....but what you don’t like/believe about Trump, on this thread about Trump!

Great job of promoting your candidate...you might want to post that on a thread about.....your candidate. You’re not convincing, or changing the mind of anyone, here.

And, welcome to FR!

his agreement to be labled a “NY Republican” and a “Rockefeller Republican”

He said he does not like to be labeled. He only said he believes in certain principles of the Republican party.

“you might want to post that on a thread about.....your candidate. “

Tell that to the Trumpite trolls jumping in on may threads that do no relate to him.

Thanks, that was great!

Also, here's a more recent one from just last December: Donald J. Trump, Chairman and President, The Trump Organization

Am I the only one who wishes the Trump from 1988 was here in 2015?

Younger trump seems much more "calm" and better spoken.

When you say “he is not as conservative as he talks”, can you site some specific areas where you feel he is not conservative? General labels do not tell us anything. For example, Cruz is conservative on abortion issue, but liberal on issue of illegals. He never uses the words “DEPORT ILLEGALS”. And Cruz wants to import 5 times more cheap foreign workers. To me that is extreme liberal because it hurts American citizens by losing their jobs to foreigners and lowers the wage levels for everyone.

I've done that before, doesn't seem to register or be remembered.

Personal property rights (kelo); universial government-paid-for healthcare; support for liberals including Reid, Hillary, Pelosi. Touting President Obama's leadership and appointees...

I also hope that supporting crony capitalism is not a conservative position.

You mis-understand how a large business survives in our country where politicians have the power. Any businessman who does not befriend politicians of all stripes is a complete idiot. His/her business will not exist very long. For crying out loud, Trump was not RNC chair when he donated to politicians of all parties.

I have zero problem if a property owner is properly compensated so that a highway, a hospital, a court, a railroad, an oil pipe-line such as Keystone, etc needs use of that property location. Property is material thing. I have moved may be 10 times in my lifetime, and only thing I was attached to was personal items such as family photo albums. If someone wanted my house for one of the examples I cited above, and paid me more than my property was worth on the market, I would be out of there faster than delivery of a Jimmy John’s sandwich.

I understand large and small business.

You are describing crony capitalism at the least, no integrity at the middle and corruption at the top.

Trump was a major supporter of one of the most corrupt politicians in the country.

"All successful business must be in cahoots with politicians in corruption" is a liberal argument - heck it's the theme of many hollywood movies.

Before I go on to your next rebuttal, rethink this one: One need not be corrupt to be successful in America.

If you don't know the difference between these examples and kelo - and in Trump's case, Vera Coking, then I suggest you study it more.

In the Kelo decision, the Supreme Court held that "public use" could include private use, so long as the new property owner paid more in taxes than the previous one.

The government could take your property on the justification that another private entity, like Trump, could develop it and make more tax money for the state. Again, the government taking your property because someone else could generate more taxes off it.. That's not a highway or pipeline.

Trump supported Kelo "100%". And tried his own version against Vera Cokling.

Individual rights trumping the power of government is a major conservative principle. Trump is far on the wrong side of this.

Have you heard of courts? That would be a good place for anyone who thinks their property should not be forced to sell.

Again people who have a morbid attachment to material things such as bricks & wood are not rational.
