Because Trump does better at the questions and back and forth parts. Reading statements doesn't really play to his strengths. If I were his campaign manager, I'd prefer it that way.

But this suggestion by CNBC was never going to stick anyway, because that just isn't debate protocol, and most the candidates would object. I think Trump is the only candidate who it would give an advantage to.

You’re right about the debate protocol thing.

It would be weird to “just get tight into it” and end it without a closing statement and just “thank you very much for watching”.
