Ben Carson and Donald Trump are neck and neck in the battle for Pennsylvanias 2016 GOP presidential primary voters, a new poll says.
Trump edges out Carson by 1 percentage point in the Keystone State, according to the latest Public Policy Polling (PPP) sampling released Tuesday.
Trump leads the GOP presidential race in the state with 24 percent support. Carson closely trails the outspoken billionaire at 23 percent.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina follow them at 9 percent apiece.
Former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-Fla.) and Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) are next with 7 percent each.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) then earns 6 percent, making him the last Republican White House hopeful polling above 3 percent in Tuesdays survey.
Pennsylvanias Republican primary voters also prefer Carson to Trump when left with only those two options.
Tuesdays poll found that 52 percent would pick Carson versus 38 percent who would back Trump. Another 10 percent said they were unsure, PPP added.
Carson also remains the most popular second choice of the entire GOP presidential field in Pennsylvania. About 20 percent would support the retired neurosurgeon if their first option were unavailable.
Trump, in contrast, gets only 9 percent voter support among the same group.
Former Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.), meanwhile, fares badly among his former constituents in the Keystone State. Just 2 percent back his presidential campaign.
Additionally, 64 percent believe Santorum should abandon his Oval Office bid, versus 23 percent who hope he continues.
PPP surveyed 479 Republican primary voters from Oct. 8 to Oct. 11 via landline phone and Internet polling. It has a 4.5 percent margin of error.
I tried one. You HAD to pick 3. So I left. I believe that's what is happening. After picking their No. 1...they pick anybody.
The reality is that polls about our late April primary mean squat until maybe the end of February.
Democrats are conducting an Operation Chaos to nominate Ben over Trump, just like we conducted an Operation Chaos to nominate her over Obola in 2008.
Bingo ! That is exactly what is happening.
Hillary’s campaign money up to no good..
Scorned Witch orders her minions to throw things into chaos.
You don’t know that. I always like to read the poll threads because people who don’t agree with the poll makes up some excuse (some are hysterical) why it’s bad. If you had agreed with the poll, you would be all over extolling the virtues of the polling company, your fellow voter and how wonderful life is. Very funny. Thanks for posting.
I think everyone gets that these polls are not predicting who will win in the April primary, but who do you support today. I hope you understand it now.
Democrats are conducting an Operation Chaos to nominate Ben over Trump...That is not true at all. They perceive both as real threats, but feel much better about their prospects with Trump with his very high negatives and his propensity for gaffe. They can isolate Trump so long as they can keep the unions from defecting.
Trump is polarizing.
Carson completely blows all their stereotyping to smithereens. He is an existential threat that, if he were to be the GOP nominee, might delegate the Democrats to the back bench for a generation.
Think about a GOP nominee who could keep social and economic conservatives in the fold, but who could appeal to African Americans who have been taken for granted for generations now in the Democratic party. Those socially conservative black Democrats who might otherwise line up more with the GOP but could not get past the stereotype of the white man's party for rich people. If he could pull 20% of the African American vote, it would be an utter massacre at the polls. And I think he could pull 30% in his sleep. I could see a wave, a sea change, an earthquake of support for him on election day where he might pull 35-40% of African Americans. I'd love to see him as the GOP choice and Hillary as the Dem choice and watch to see how many African Americans connect with Hillary Clinton. It would be fatal.
Carson will be easy to take out after Trump is vanquished.
Santorum must be as weak in PA and Loveable Lindsey seems to be in SC.
The GOPe also controls delegates selection with delegates running ‘uncommitted’ so the average voter is blind as to their loyalty.
This enables the Establishment to control the delegation regardless of the popular votes.
Carson will be easy to take out after Trump is vanquished. How is that? Do tell.
He’s being propped up by crossover Democrats. All they have to do is cross back over and they are gone.
You have a link for that? I have not read or heard that anywhere.
Yeh I don’t have anything agains’t Carson personally but I just don’t see him polling this high. He is not in other polls. Actually I do not know one person who is going to vote for Carson. Mostly Trump or Cruz.
The big rigged poll is the latest Faux News poll, showing Trump at 24% and Carson, who never gives a speech, has no policy positions yet, and will put you to sleep talking, pulling 23%. The majority of the other polls have Trunp way in front of Carson. I smell a rat and that rat is Faux News.
The average black laughs at Carson because he’s a republican.
He stands no chance of winning the GOP nomination. The man will put you to sleep talking. And what’s this with him closing his eyes all time and garbling his words? He acts like he’s on a very strong anti-depressant. Trump’s only negative is his big mouth, because he absolutely has the best ideas of any candidate running.
Never believe he can’t beat any democrat in a general election. The ones they say can’t win can win, and the ones they say can win, can’t win. If Trump were to get the nomination he would win the general election going away. There will be no Obama third team, and all in the hell Hillary Clinton is is Obama in a Chairman Mao jacket.
