Trump: I'm not thinking third party -- for now
Washington Examiner ^ | 7/7/15 | Byron York

Posted on 07/08/2015 8:07:12 AM PDT by entropy12

Donald Trump's 2016 presidential run seems custom-made for a third party. The billionaire developer has never held political office, never run as a Republican or Democrat. He doesn't need a party's money-raising apparatus. His anti-politician appeal — "Politicians are never going to bring us to the promised land" — cuts equally against Republicans and Democrats. And as far as Republicans are concerned, Trump appears to connect with GOP voters who are so disgusted with the party's current Washington leadership that they would be open to a third-party campaign.

But in an interview Tuesday, Trump said he has no interest in running as a third-party candidate, at least for the moment. "I've had many, many people ask me about running as an independent," Trump told me in a telephone conversation. "My sole focus is to run as a Republican. I'm a conservative Republican."

"My sole focus is to run as a Republican," Trump repeated, "because of the fact that I believe that is the best way we can defeat the Democrats."

When I asked Trump to elaborate on why he would stay in the GOP, Trump cited his rising position in the polls, the big crowds he attracts, and his profile in the race. "We've hit a nerve," he said.

What makes you think that conservatives can’t be pro-life, and anti-immigration, and against gun banning?

Why are you determined to only support part of our conservative agenda, and promote abortion politics?

“No conservative should.” (vote for Trump)

Depends on what the other options are... Trump is clearly more conservative than Bush.

You make my point. There are far more conservative options than lifelong liberal Donald Trump.

“Take it from me, after a man approaches 70, first priority is not money.”

That is very true... I’m closer to 70 than Trump is, and money is not something I worry about anymore. Not at all...

Was Al Gore more conservative than Bush in 2000? Trump switched to Al Gore's party in 2001.

How many other conservatives can we name who switched to the Democrat party of 2001 through 2009, which consisted of Al Gore, John Kerry, Hillary, Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, and Harry Reid?

The country is in dire straits. If you don’t stand your ground now when do you?

It’s time for conservatives to demonstrate the resolution that inspired the words “Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death.”

If the GOPe throws Trump out and he goes Third Party i’ll go with him. And if he does go, I hope he takes Cruz with him.

It is now or never.

It’s funny how you project, you ignore posts and politics, and merely stalk and make childish posts, carry personal grudges, ankle biting, and post nothing of substance.

What many posters do not understand is the simple fact, that if millions of illegals are allowed to keep streaming across the southern border, and allowed to remain, they will eventually become eligible to vote.

Experience clearly shows that the under-educated immigrants vote 80%+ LIBERAL democrat to receive more freebies from government. When 30 million illegals become eligible to vote, ABORTION ON DEMAND will become the norm for next 100 years. But some people are so consumed with knee jerk reactions, they do not understand the long term strategic deleterious effect of illegal immigration. It is best to ignore them.

Sanders is perfectly postured to run as an independent because he is one. I don't understand why the dims allow him to declare in their primary. He is also running a grass roots campaign very much like ron paul did.

Trump just likes to see his name in lights and because of that I think he will run anywhere he can create a niche. Republicans can only hope his draw isn't as strong as sanders is for the dims.

That scenario would give the Republican a plurality in the 2016 election.

All the states subscribing to the interstate compact would be obliged to give their electoral votes to the popular vote vinner. That could actually create an electoral landslide for a candidate that might get as little as 26% of the popular vote. I don't see that compact holding unless a dim is clearly going to win though.

Trump/Cruz or Cruz/Trump is indeed the last hope if this country can make a change of direction.

“You make my point. There are far more conservative options than lifelong liberal Donald Trump.”

How does that make your point? There are not many well informed, post 65 liberals. Many take that position for self serving reasons though. Even the Clintons are probably not true liberals. They just want power and money, and acting liberal is how they can get it.

What many posters do not understand is the simple fact, that if millions of illegals are allowed to keep streaming across the southern border, and allowed to remain, they will eventually become eligible to vote.

Freerepublic is pretty unanimous about illegal immigration, and many of us are savvy about the same effect that legal immigration has, which merely means that the democrats get them voting quicker.

But we also remain anti-abortion, and against guns being banned, and voting for democrats, who only left that party 6 years ago.

Experience since the 1965 Immigration Act shows that legal immigrants vote democrat and for more freebies from the government.

In a four-way race the Republican won’t get 10%.

You are a treacherous poster of lies and slander.

For starter’s TRUMP is entirely pro 2nd Amendment.

He’s not for “gun banning” like you have repeatedly posted.

My time here is more valuable than wasting it on the likes of you.

You’re not only misinformed, you’re boringly repetitious: posting your same false diatribe on thread after thread after thread.

Get lost!

Like so much that you make up, his position on guns is different than you claim, the pro-abortion Trump wants to ban what he calls "assault rifles".

"Trump said he supports a ban on assault weapons and longer waiting periods on gun purchases." “who needs them except criminals and police?”

I doubt that trump would split the Republicans as much as sanders would split the dims.
