Look at any national poll on the 2016 Republican presidential race, and you will see three to five candidates clumped at the top of the field all winning somewhere between 9 and 14 percent of the vote. Its fair, given that clumping, to conclude that the race lacks a front-runner.
But theres a difference between a race without a clear front-runner and a race in which theres no discernible momentum among the top tier of candidates. And what we have is the latter, not the former.
Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida is the candidate trending up in that top pack. Its a trajectory hes been on since he announced his candidacy almost two months ago. Rubios charisma, personal story and relative youth have combined to make him the it candidate for the GOP at the moment.
Rubio has also been helped by the slippage of his two main rivals for the nomination: Jeb Bush and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker....

Forget the horse race and keep whipping Congress to start getting it right.
Once Ted Cruz gets his message out to the populace things will be clear.
Once Ted Cruz gets his message out to the populace things will be clear.
Their list:
1. Jeb
2. Jeb
3. Jeb
Washington Post rankings:
#1. Pro-Amnesty Rubio.
#2. Pro-Amnesty Jeb Bush.
Why am I not surprised? If either is nominated, I will not vote GOP for president in 2016. Four more years of big government liberalism will destroy America, whether it’s under Hillary or Rubio/Jeb.
I’m surprised though that Walker and Cruz made #3 and #4 on the Compost’s list. Either one would get my vote. I’m hoping all other conservatives will drop out once it’s clear that neither Walker nor Cruz will self-destruct. I’d like to see the RINO wing split their votes forever while conservatives unite behind whichever of the top two conservatives does the best in the first few races.
That Walker keeps making this list of Rubio, Walker, Bush that’s being repeated throughout the Ministry Of Propaganda my spider senses are telling me I was right about Walker with my first gut impressions. These are all Cheap Labor Express approved candidates.
And people are abandoning Cruz in droves for what I think is a misunderstanding, with all due respect.
Romney mentioned Walker by name as well. Bad sign.
Chris Cilliza? Chris Cilliza? This guy is so far left he is cross-eyed. He would not report the truth if his life depended on it. Par for the course for the WA Compost. What a bunch of crap. They’re in our face all the time, reporting nonsense as if we are stupid. Get lost Chris and all you buffoons at the Compost.
I wonder how much of that is real and how much is AstroTurf - leftist trolls trying to set an example, in the hope of being followed, but lying as liberals always do.
As for me: The secrecy of the Trade bill bothers me very much, and I was disappointed that Cruz supported a secret bill. But my support for Cruz has not wavered.
Well here’s the problem. With SO many (too many) running, we are going to get a plurality nominee and therein lies the potential disaster.
Having Bush or Rubio would be little different than having Clinton. Either of those three pretty much ensures the final degrading of this nation.
I’ll be overseas if a conservative isn’t elected. I didn’t have the means to do so under BHO, but I do now. I won’t sit here and watch the Balkanization and low-grade civil war.
I have three tiers of choices. They are, from top to bottom:
1. Those for whom I would not only vote but also donate to and campaign for (primarily because I trust them on social issues), in order are:
Santorum, Cruz, and Jindal
2. Those whom I would probably vote for but probably not donate to or campaign for:
Walker, Huckabee, Carson, and Perry
3. Those for whom I probably or definitely would not even vote for:
Basically the rest of the major announced candidates
There should be 2 litmus tests for the Republican nominee.
1. If elected, will the first thing you do is exec Obamacare out of existence?
If yes,
2. If elected, will you exec that before any immigration discussions are held, the southern border of the US will be 100% sealed?
If either is no, drop out now.
Those are Ted Cruz’s stands.
Without wanting to start arguments here....I suspect Rubio is feared most by the RATS. Young, energetic and connects with folks of varied back ground.
But for us on FR the main objection to him is/was his stance on amnesty. We’ll see how this all shakes out in the next few months.
