Mike Huckabee Scoffs At Pulling A 'Taxpayer-Funded Paycheck' While Pulling A Taxpayer-Funded Pension

When former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) announced his second presidential bid on Tuesday, he played up his blue-collar, working-class background in an attempt to distinguish himself from some of his rivals.

"I don't have a global foundation or a taxpayer-funded paycheck to live off of. I don't come from a family dynasty, but a working family. I grew up blue collar, not blue blood," Huckabee said in his announcement, which he delivered in his hometown of Hope, Arkansas.

Huckabee's statement took aim at several of his potential competitors in the 2016 election. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and her husband run the Clinton Global Foundation. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) -- a likely 2016 contender and the son and brother of former presidents -- certainly didn't grow up working-class. And Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who have all announced their White House bids, draw a government paycheck from their jobs.

But it's not entirely accurate for Huckabee to insinuate that he doesn't benefit from taxpayer funds.

In the financial disclosure form that Huckabee filed in May 2007 for his first presidential run, he reported approximately $14,000 in a pension from the state of Arkansas between Jan. 1, 2006, and the date of filing.

Huckabee served as Arkansas' lieutenant governor from November 1993 to July 1996, and as governor from July 1996 to January 2007. Along with other state workers, he is part of the Arkansas Public Employees Retirement System. From 1978 through mid-2005, employees joining APERS did not have to contribute any funds toward their retirement....

He’s a huckster! He should stick to selling patent medicine to the gullible. Amazingly, he’s about tied with Ted Cruz in the latest RCP poll averages. 7.5% to Cruz’s 8.8%. That probably means he’s not going to be the nominee, which is a good thing. But it’s amazing how much name recognition gets you. He starts even with Cruz who has been clearly campaigning since the start of the year.

He won Iowa and about 6 or 7 other states in 2008 and has had a once a week TV show for many years now. Once people see Ted Cruz in the debates alongside these other people, the sheep and the goats shall soon be separated.

Cruz has to make debates. First. The MSM is doing their comrades proud. Never a mention of Ted Cruz by the serial news companies.

Remember the real timeline:

Maurice Clemmons
16-years old
Aggravated Robbery, Theft of Property

May 3, 2000: Arkansas Governor Huckabee reduced Clemmons’ 108 year
sentence to 47 years which made Clemmons eligible for parole immediately.

July 13, 2000: Clemmons went before the parole board which grants his parole.

August 1, 2000: Clemmons is released from prison to parole.

July 13, 2001: He committed a technical violation of his parole and had new pending charges for robbery. He was sentenced to 10 years to be served concurrently.

March 18, 2004:
The parole board released Clemmons only to Washington State because he had family here.

March 29, 2004:
Clemmons was transferred to Washington for supervision under the Interstate Compact agreement.

Washington Supervision History:
Until May 2009, his supervision was relatively uneventful.
