Michigan Political Points: Ted Cruz presidential bid pitched by prominent Republican strategist

LANSING, MI - While Michigan Republicans are still debating when to hold their 2016 presidential primary, some of the party’s top political strategists are making the case for potential candidates.

Welcome to Michigan Political Points, my weekly roundup of news, views and YouTubes from the state Capitol and beyond.

CRUZ NEWS: Former Michigan Republican Party Chairman Saul Anuzis, now working as a political consultant, penned a column this week making the case for a Ted Cruz presidential nomination in 2016.

“He’s the candidate many in the mainstream media and Washington chattering class love to hate,” Anuzis wrote. “He is demonized by many while revered by so many more throughout the heartland of America. He speaks his mind, stands his ground and is willing to fight the fight.”

The early Anuzis backing creates an interesting dynamic in Michigan, where fellow consultant John Yob is already working for likely candidate Rand Paul. That’s to say nothing of the national speculation about our very own Gov. Rick Snyder or his pal Jeb Bush.

BREAKFAST DUTY: Republican Attorney General Bill Schuette, a potential gubernatorial candidate in 2018, may have stolen some of Snyder’s thunder on Thursday when he hosted an indoor breakfast before an outdoor inauguration ceremony headlined by the governor.

The overflow crowd that gathered to eat and hear Schuette speak was arguably larger than the one at the actual inauguration. And some Schuette supporters who made it over to the ceremony were less than enthusiastic about the governor....

Sounds like his is talking about Ronald Reagan.

Close enough for me, and I worked for President Reagan.

Saul Anuzis, this man gets it.

He ‘was’ the Chairman of the Republican Party in Michigan.

I wonder how many ‘current’ such Chairpersons would have the courage to say what this ‘former’ Chairman says here. I sense not many but that can change.

I don’t trust Saul Anuses as far as I can throw him. He’s a Willardbot, and he’s going to be looking to destroy Cruz from within.

McLettuce has purged AZ politics of conservatives such as Mr. Anuzis. The war is on.

Saul Anuzis WILL shove a big old Bowie knife into the back of Ted Cruz before he moves on to fawning over Jeb Bush, Romney, or Chistie.

Among the reasons he was voted off the RNC are things like pimping the national popular vote using the Official RNC letterhead causing some to think it was the official RNC stance. He was also one of those who voted to change the vote allocation rules late on election night as the tally showed a tie between Romney and Santorum so they gave the at large votes to Romney.

Snyder is a RINO but not underhanded like that slug Anuzis. Snyder will tell you if he’s going to do something you don’t like.

Bill Schuette is the one who is most like Ted Cruz. He stands by the state constitution regardless of his personal feelings and won’t hesitate to go after the GOP and the democrats alike.

From "MI GOP Credentials Committee Gives Romney 2 At-Large Delegates" (MIRS Breaking News - 01 March 2012 @ 12:44):

The Michigan Republican Party (MRP) Credentials Committee voted 4-2 last night to give Mitt Romney both of the state's at-large delegates, State Policy Committee Chair Mike Cox told MIRS today.

Cox was one of two "no" votes on the committee which met via telephone, along with attorney Eric Doster The "yes" votes included GOP National Committeeman Saul Anuzis, a Romney supporter, and MRP Chair Bobby Schostak.

That would put the delegate split at 16 for Romney and 14 for Rick Santorum, after each candidate won 14 delegates apiece in those divided by Michigan's 14 congressional districts.

As MIRS first reported on Wednesday, the MRP was delaying a final decision on the delegate split until after consulting with attorneys.

Cox said that according to the MRP rules, Santorum and Romney should each get one of Michigan's two at-large delegates based on their take of the popular vote.

"I supported Mitt, but the vote was clearly wrong," Cox said of the Credentials Committee. "It's kind of like Third World voting. We published rules and then we voted to change the rules."

Because The Narrative Cannot Survive A Rewrite

That would have severely crippled Romney.
