Jim DeMint Blesses Ted Cruz Over Rick Perry
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | August 29, 2014 | Jonathan Strong

In Dallas at an Americans For Prosperity event, Heritage Foundation president and former-Sen. Jim DeMint put his thumb firmly on the scale for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) over fellow Texan Gov. Rick Perry for the coming 2016 presidential contest.

“I think Cruz even more than Perry right now,” DeMint told the Associated Press. “Ted has become really the national conservative leader.”(continued)

I like both of them.

There is plenty of room at the table, this early.

I’m seeing more and more Romney trolls on FR who are saying that Cruz should stay in the Senate where he can do the most good as he matures, and leave the presidenting to someone with “executive experience”.

Sorry to say, time’s run out. We gotta get it right this time, it’s now or never.

I’d take Perry before Krispy Kreme, Jeb, Milt or any of the other retreads, go-alongs and lamebrains, of course, but at this point, Cruz before Perry.

I LOVE TED CRUZ! I’ve said before and will say it many more times: I’d gladly follow Ted Cruz to Hell and back! He is precisely the kind of politician that the founding fathers had in mind when they created this great country. He’s EXTREMELY ERUDITE, a citizen legislator, and a true patriot! He is just the type of leader that we need to have if we are going to start to take this country back from the flaming heap that the Marxist Muslim-in-Chief has left us with. Personally, I prefer a Ted Cruz-Ben Carson GOP ticket in 2016. That ticket would be a truly great ticket, like one we haven’t seen in ages. Ted Cruz is a world-class debater and Dr. Carson would be more than capable of out debating any Democratic opponent. He’s measured, competent, and very erudite himself!

Rick Perry, on the on the other hand, is a La Raza-loving, illegal alien-loving, transnational health care-loving, Gardasil-promoting, America-hating leftist. He so stupid that he can’t even count to three! He graduated college with a 1.8 GPA. I am certain that any mentally retarded person could out debate him. (I assure you I have nothing but compassion for the mentally retarded; I was just making a point.) Rick Perry would make George W. Bush look smart. (I think George W. Bush might say that I have “misunderestimated” what kind of compassionate conservative Rick Perry is.)

Good for Sen. DeMint for making a very wise and excellent choice between Sen. Cruz and Gov. Perry./rwa

Ted Cruz is the first candidate I voted FOR since 84’. After Reagan, I have been holding my nose and voting against democRATs.

I’m in - Cruz first and Perry second - we don’t really have a lot of potential choices going for us; I hope folks stop trashing Perry the way they have been - we seem to keep poisoning our own well then bitch about getting sick.

I CANNOT STAND PERRY. But I’m a straight-shooter and will give him credit where it’s due.

For starters, he knew enough to keep clear of Common Core. Jindal and most other Republican governors made their states suffer through their “learning curve” in finding out that federal “freebies” often have strings attached. Now some of these governors are trying to get away from Common Core, just to have activist judges tell them that it’s ILLEGAL to pull out and they’re stuck.

Likewise on Obamacare Medicaid expansion. Again, it looked like free federal money, but Perry said NO THANKS. He understood that the purpose of the money was to make people dependent on the government for healthcare...so if really poor Texans that don’t feel like working want healthcare, they have about 45 other states that will give them a free ride.

On “immigration” Perry came late, very late. He virtually spent his entire political career answering to to the AMNESTY types, like Karl Rove (Texas Dream Act, deals with Mexico, the list is endless). Only now, and AFTER it blows open does he seem to realize that flooding the country with Third World types is not in everyone’s long-term interests. I suspect this is the issue that DeMint has with him, and if so, he’s right on.

I had hoped Jim DeMint would have run at some point and was disappointed when he left office. He’s a good man who is showing how one can truly, “lead from behind’. Cruz would be my pick to lead from the front.

Perry trashed himself by hiring the three consultants he hired this week. It was stunning.

I think DeMint should let US choose...otherwise he is just another Rove.

I think DeMint should let US choose...otherwise he is just another Rove.

I look at DeMint as the Anti-Rove. He, and the organization he's building (Heritage Action), provide an important counter-balance to Rove and Crossroads.

Perry really screwed up in 2012. Could have been the Conservative candidate that Conservatives coalesced around as a counter to Mitt Romney. But he completely blew it and I'm not quite ready to forgive and look beyond that. He has a heck of a long, tough way to go if he wants to earn my primary vote.

Cruz and Walker are my top two right now. The unfortunate thing is that they each represent only half of the winning Reagan formuala. Cruz has vision and the ability to articulate it. Walker has executive experience and a good track record of implementing Conservative solutions. Particularly kicking in the teeth of the public service unions. I'm really glad the primaries are a long ways off ...
