Amid the lowlights of the media coverage of Texas Sen. Ted Cruzs speech (actual Politico.com headline: Experts: Dr. Seuss Would Be Offended ), its easy to skip how the press was overlooking the obvious accomplishment happening before their eyes:
Cruz was winning.
No, Cruz wasnt winning the vote count in the U.S. Senate to defund Obamacare. That was never going to happen.
And even if the John McCain surrender caucus had stood strong, bringing five red-state Democrats with them, Cruz still would have lost. President Obama would have vetoed, and the bar in the Senate would have risen to 67 no votes on Obamacare. Currently impossible.
But the big, fat, glaring I-cant-believe-MSNBC-cant-see-this win is that Obamacare is once again front-and-center of the political debate.
As The Weekly Standards Bill Kristol pointed out on Boston Herald Radio yesterday, it wasnt supposed to be that way. Cruz has succeeded in turning (Obamacares future) into an open question.
Democrats like Sen. McCain (what did I miss something) did their best yesterday to make Obamas case:
Elections have consequences, and those elections were clear in a significant majority that a majority of the American people supported the president. I think all of us should respect the outcome of elections which reflects the will of the people.
Ah, but the will of the people based on mountains of poll data is that they either dont like Obamacare, hate Obamacare or want it tied to a concrete block and dropped into a lake.....

Cruz Control!
Ted Cruz is my hero..no matter what happens Cruz stood there and busted his ass for what, over 21 hours nonstop, for ALL OF US..for his children’s future, for our future..God Bless this wonderful man..the GOP needs more Ted Cruz’s and less McCain’s and Grahams
The loser now will be later to win. We should have a good rino season come 2014 and 2016 thanks to Cruz
Exactly. This is huge.
Dear John,
This is the Earth calling. Obama used the IRS to intimidate the TEA Party and affect the outcome of the US election. That was not the will of the people. It was the will of the IRS.
We all know what’s going down here. Ted Cruz went over the heads of the senile Old Guard Republicans and took his act straight to the public. And it worked like a charm.
Ted hit a homer, if only in spirit.
Isn’t the House of Representatives run by Republicans who supposedly are anti-Obamacare? Don’t all government appropriations have to come out of the House? Then what, exactly, are we talking about? Speaker Boehner could de-fund ACA any time he wanted to. He just doesn’t want to.
The Democrats of both parties have been outed in the Senate.
Yes, of course, you're right, the GOP House is the holder of the pur$e.
The majority must stand with Senator Cruz.
Our Republic of our Founders merits no less.
Amen. The house holds all the constitutional cards. Just do not fund it. Period.
