Former U.S. Homeland Security Secretary and ex-Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge believes the Obama White House can draw some useful lessons from Wednesday's defeat of a bill extending background checks on most firearms purchases.
Ridge took a few minutes to chat Thursday about the lessons of Monday's Boston Marathon bombing, U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey's rising national profile and where gun-control advocates go next after Wednesday's vote.
Here's the transcript of the interview:
Q: In the hours after the Boston Marathon attacks, there was a rush to judgment, both in the press and in social media, about the identity of the alleged attacker or attackers. More often than not, without proof or evidence, speculation settled on Muslims. What can or should be done to prevent this kind of scapegoating?
A: "Theres some culpability somewhere. But I think it's shared by many sources. There is a great desire to know what happened, but there is a failure to appreciate the complexity of an investigation that will ultimately tell us what happened.
"To those speculating on the perpetrators -- on social media to journalists saying someone had been arrested -- everyone has to breathe in and breathe out and let law enforcement do their job. Everyone wants to opine. Everyone wants to commentate."(continued)

Support of totalitarianism is courageous to the statists.
Toomey made the mistake of failing to understand that intelligent people
do
not
trust
the government.
Shame on him. He’ll probably pay at the polls for his lack of good judgment.
Thats the price one pays for having the “courage to be a liberal”. Lets hope other such ‘courageous” republicants meet the same political fate.
Scary, but this clown was nearly picked for VP and could well be president now.
As bad as Obama is, having a pansy like Ridge, or Conlin Bowell, would be even worse, as they would actively team up with the Dems to “achieve legislative priorities”, much as Bush’s father did and Nixon did.
Pat Toomey has been a HUGE disappointment and will hopefully be voted out in his next primary. They question is...who in PA can we get to run against him????
Doesn’t matter! We’ve been stabbed in the back by a RINO again. No different than if a Demorat had won the election in 2010.He can be beat in the primary but the legally armed citizens will have to vote in huge numbers to beat the sewers of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh where the 47%ters run the show.
Ridge is the governor who stopped regular abortion clinic inspections. He is not interested in preserving life or liberty.
Perhaps he will one-up angry conservatives by dropping the other shoe and switch parties. I’ld believe it at this point.
Unfortunately, in Pa. a large number of gun owners are also union members. When it comes time for voting they follow the union line and vote Democrat. I don’t see that changing.
We also have a newly elected Libtard Attorney General who is not “ gun friendly”
Rino’s like Ridge always like it when Republicans turn on conservatives.
Treason is now called Courage...I get it!
Just another example of why the Lib-Progs insist on an “evolving” language so they can make terms mean what they wish. You know, like “shall not be infringed” means we can discuss making laws to restrict freedom. Those of us who believe that words mean things are just narrow-minded simpletons, you see.
Courage or stupidity? His next election cycle will answer that question.
Yep. Toomey will not again get my vote, and I do not care what that means.
There must be consequences for blatantly going against the Constitution, especially when one touts themselves as “Pro-Constitution”
Traitor Toomey.
Pretty much...
Ridge you and Toomey keep telling yourselves that and be dusting up those resume’s. I am sure your liberal friends in the DNC will be calling soon. Suckers!
Toomey lost me long ago, when he “came out” in support of the sodomization of the US military.
What a scumbag.
