The only possible connection I can see is that Republicans were angry at Romney’s overly harsh response to Akin’s retracted remarks.

But my best guess is that there is no connection.

I agree with your assessment. Romney may have lost some conservatives for not having the courage to stand with Akins in his support of fetal life. He could have said ‘The word should have been violent rape instead of legitimate rape. I'll send Todd a better dictionary.”

My bet is Akin loses by 13 points to McCaskill. Akin will join the Sharon Angle-O’Connell-Hoffman-Miller club. This guy has ego bigger than Obama, and brain smaller than Biden.
