We fear that to nominate former Speaker Newt Gingrich would be to blow the opportunity to win the White House next year. The Editor

Seeing all the others fail and Newt is the last option, the final pro-Romany assault is launched. Quale, Coulter, The witch from Delaware...
The ineligible Mitt 'Hussein' Romney:
"I bet you $10,000 that National Review will ignore what I do today
and will pimp me even if YOU rot in jail.
"As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.
* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.
* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts' anemic 1.9 percent pace.
* While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.
"Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents," professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.
In an April 2003 meeting with the Massachusetts congressional delegation in Washington, Romney failed to endorse President Bush's $726 billion tax-cut proposal."

Milt Romney the Magic RINO:
"I'm not running as the Republican view
or a continuation of Republican values.
That's not what brings me to the race.
(Romney Video, accessed 9/19/07)
"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party
over to the traitors in the battle just ended.
We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged
to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support.
Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates
wouldnt make any sense at all.""
-- President Ronald Reagan
A few points:
1. Mitt seems to be taking the lead again in Iowa, according to Rassmussen.
2. The establishment GOP Media, like National Review, Ann Coulter, etc almost seem to have a personal vendetta against Newt. It really seems to be more than just an anti-endorsement or anything political. It’s almost as if there is something called “Gingrich Derangement Syndrome.” The establishment hates him, yet he’s definitely one of them. I can certainly appreciate the arguments against Newt, but it’s almost ridiculous how much the establishment dislikes him.
3. I don’t necessarily buy the notion that only Romney is electable.
I agree with NR.
All these long knives coming out for Gingrich is quite useful. It tells me loudly and clearly who the the enemies are within our ranks, aka The Establishment.
***The establishment hates him, yet hes definitely one of them.***
He lived in the neighborhood and moved out. There is a difference. If Newt were still in Congress, your statement would be valid. It no longer applies.
Whereas Romney would be a surefire ticket to win. Shhhhure.
Anybody with a subscription to NR, this is your chance. And if you have any postage paid envelopes or cards, kiddies, you know what to do!
Obama say, Please Nominate This Man Mitt Romney!
NR(in)O shows its true colors.
Obama got that much!
Extend that to the field at large, and they’re right.
I am so sick of these folks trying to shove Mitt down everyones throat. If you dont like Newt thats ok, but Im sick of the GOP status quo...the ones that continually give us gangs of... and debt limit deals telling us how much better off we will be with Mitt. Lets not forget they also chose Blunt over Johnson.
The establishment and other Turds like NRO are counting on the GOP voters to support Mitt when he is the only one left. They also think that those same voters will be forced to vote for Mitt rather than see Obama win. No matter how bad Obama is, it will take a very motivated base to overcome his billion dollars in attack ads. If Mitt cant even motivate his own party in the primary, how will he ever motivate them to support him in his effort to defeat Obama.
I canceled my subscription to NRO over their constant shilling for Romney. I hope others will as well. All I can figure is that Mittens must have been politicking overtime on one of those NRO cruises that they constantly pimp.
As far as Im concerned, he can strap his dog on the roof and head back home. I refuse to continually support a GOP that insists on shoving him down the electorates throat.
Romney is weak, prissy, waffling and passionless. He won one major election in his life; didn’t seek re-election because he was hugely unpopular. Couldn’t beat McCain in 2008. He inspires no one and tends to weaken over time because he’s a poor campaigner. He’s socially awkward and does not connect well with voters. So this is the guy we’re told we have to run against Obama? Wonder what these establishment republicans are smoking.
Zactly.
Just what are the stark differences between Barry and Mitt.
Not enough for daylight.
Someone should compile a collection of Mitt glad handing this BarryTard in the last election.
“Like the good senator....”
“I agree with Barack, except with this difference...”
That is exactly how he spoke to us last time around and he isn’t going to improve in this election.
Pisses me off.
You mean “Yawn. I’m going back to sleep” inspiring? /s LOL
“1. Mitt seems to be taking the lead again in Iowa, according to Rassmussen”
Might wanna check you facts on that one....
I wouldn’t vote for Mitt Romney if you paid me but I agree with the NRO editorial board’s opinion on the risk of nominating the mercurial, ‘progressive’ Newt Gingrich. He does not hold conservative values and is wildly unpredictable. Being good in debates is important but hardly the only attribute we need in a winning candidate. Newt’s lame response to Romney’s jibe about Newt’s million-dollar fee from the disgraced Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac housing authority really turned me off. I just can’t get behind this guy - or the phoney used car salesman with the winning smile, Willard Romney, he of the state health care mandate. Romney is a non-starter for me and Newt isn’t really much better. I’ll take Bachmann or Santorum, genuine conservatives.
