Are Democrats turning their back on Obama?
Right Up Front ^ | 107/14/2008 | R Hargraves

Posted on 07/14/2008 2:54:49 PM PDT by KatyLoraleyVidales

I wrote about this very topic a few weeks ago as it related to some polling that had been released. But it wasn't until my own personal experience with Democrats within my own family that it became more personal to me, and its impact on this year's election more evident and probable. Many Democrats do not like and will not vote for Barack Obama.

This fact was on display on my two most recent visits to my childhood home while visiting my parents and family. I am blessed to have a very politically diverse family. I have an ardently Republican uncle and a strident Democrat uncle. One aunt is so rabidly anti-war no amount of success would convince her it was worth undergoing and another who by most standards is an evangelical voter. My own parents are conservatives although they were not politically active until I became active in high school. My grandparents are so immersed in Democratic politics that I feared they would collapse in shock when they found out I was the chairman of my university's College Republican chapter.

With so many Democrats in my family I was surprised to hear that none of them will be voting for Barack Obama this November, and at least one will vote for John McCain instead. These are not just fairweather Democrats. Indeed, if they were they would surely be supporting Barack in a year that should be a "sure thing" for Democrats. But instead they stand firm in their belief that Barack Obama is an undeserving, inexperienced politically ambitious amateur who is getting a little too big for his britches. My uncle insists he will stay home and is disgusted with the party he grew up in since his childhood in Ohio...

Obambi is a racist SOB, and the heartland grasps this They know he considers them crackers, and will take everything they have and give it to members of his own race. The Dems just don’t know how visceral this is to most people.

They can't be the only Dems with brains.

Not surprising at all. The upper crust Democrats are finally getting a taste of their own affirmative action programs. After many Democratic politicians have climbed up the ladder over decades, carrying water for the party, endorsing their predecessors, taking one for Clinton, etc., when it came their turn—and here I’m speaking of those who declared candidacies since 2004, they were expected to let a woman cut in line ahead of them, and then a young, inexperienced black man do the same. Why? Solely because they were a (Clinton) woman and a black man. This wasn’t supposed to happen to the anointed who are used to dictating such policies for their lessers while exempting themselves. Of course they and their acolytes resent it.

I think you may be right as I was showing a African-American who I work with and have for over 20 years the New Yorker cartoon. His coment to me was what book would he use to be take the oath of office. I played dumb and let him answer the question for me.

He said the Koran. Now this is from a hard working blue collar guy who has a wife at the Social Security administration office and is a life long democrat.

He also mentioned the issue of the flag pin. But I guess this should not surprise me as he works with a Hispanic guy who was 15 years in the Army and they together are very level headed guys. Makes me proud that they work for me.

My liberal friend is coming to visit next weekend. He’s voting for McCain and he’s never voted for a Republican before.

Anyone who went into Barnes and Nobles today can figure that one out really quick.

I managed to obtain the very last copy in the store, and the magazines had only been available for a few hours.

Who went in there and bought them all?

Americans or Obama people?

I'm really wondering if the polls can be trusted, because so many people won't admit to poll takers that they won't vote for Obama. Maybe it's because they are ashamed to admit it to someone else, and maybe it is because they are ashamed to admit it even to themselves.

There's even a term (and a Wikipedia page) for it: the Bradley effect, after Tom Bradley's narrow loss to George Deukmejian. Pre-election and even exit polls indicated Bradley would win, but the final tally went otherwise. There are other examples at the above URL.

There are exceptions, but the difference between polls and actual election results have typically been about 10%. So, if polls show Obama with a 7% lead, he may actually be 3% behind.

Investors. Already, there have over a dozen sales today for them on eBay, some in the $20-25 range. When these things disappear off the shelves, they'll probably go for even more.

That’s definitely a story I can relate to. I have many family members who are lifelong Dems. Granted, they’re all conservative, southern state Dems, but still all voted against Bush twice yet none are voting for Obama. In fact, they can’t stand him. This includes my grandparents who have never voted Republican in their 80+ years of life but may this time around (though I suspect they’ll go 3rd party).

Barack Obama's campaign complained Monday about a cartoon on the cover of The New Yorker magazine showing "his highness" Obama in Islamic dress while his wife holds an assault rifle - in the oval room of the White House.

The New Yorker Magazine pretty accurately describes the feelings of Americans about Barack and Michelle Obama. Most people feel that Obama is not interested in what is best for America. They are hardcore racists.
