I saw it again yesterday. This time on NPR.org. And this time, Ken Rudin was answering a reader

I don’t know of Tommy Thompson would be interested. But if he is, he would bring a lot of good qualities to the ticket.
I don't see him being interested. He wanted to be president and his slim chances aren't improved by being Veep for 8 years.
TT is a great man but hardly a good campaigner. I am not sure how he was elected governor of Wisconsin 4 times by huge margins.
However, the Midwest makes the difference in Presidential elections. A Midwesterner on the ticket would be a winning move. John Kerry would be President today if he had named a Midwesterner VP rather than Edwards.
His lackluster debate performances make me wonder how qualified he is to step in if he needed to become president. But overall I think he could be a good VP candidate with any of the leading contenders. Though it would be a little confusing with a Thompson/Thompson ticket. ;) If the GOP could carry WI and maybe MN with Tommy as the running mate, that would be an enormous benefit.
It’s true that he’s not a charismatic presence on the stump. But he remain popular in his home state, which will be a key state in the 2008 elections.
Thomas Thompson (son of the man known as Thom, Thomp, Thompkin, or other diminutive form of Thomas.)
I submit to you that this man is the son of his own Thomas, and the Thomas of his own self.
I’m not sure what kind president he’d make, but this man cannot be trusted to time travel anymore. If a future generation is reading this, revoke his Time Cop license.
With all due respect, if you question his fitness to step in to the role of president if needed how can you consider him a good candidate for vice-president?
Huh?
LOL, I thought I was the only one thoroughly confused ;-)
Forget it, Mike. He’s from Massachusetts.
Tommy Thompson is from Wisconsin. I think you posted to the wrong thread.
Its true that hes not a charismatic presence on the stump.
Uh guys. He didn't win 4 times by standing there looking pretty.
I lived through the Tommy years and what he did in WI was nothing short of a miracle. Why he didn't run for President in 2000 is beyond me.
I was talking about the poster with the strange time travel schtick. My “Chinatown” paraphrasing also got lost in the translation. D’oh !
Back in 2000, the whole GOP establishment was behind Bush. Tommy Thompson backed Bush in hopes of a cabinet position which he did get. Had Thompson ran in 2000, WI and maybe MI would be Red States and the Florida Recount Saga never happened.
Good grief....he couldn’t hardly talk straight at the debates. His time has passed sadly.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:
Tommy? Are you LISTENING? If you LOVE Wisconsin as you claim you do...get off your butt and run against KOHL or FEINGOLD next time around for the Senate. A Clean Sweep; I guarantee it!
Geeze, Louise! Do we need to hit you upside the head with a bratwurst? You’d make a GREAT CongressCritter. If anyone knows Pork, it’s you. If anyone knows how to make the deal behind closed doors, it’s you! You’re wasting your talents on the Presidency, Dude! The REAL power lies in Congress!
We NEED you, Tommy! Quit letting your EGO get in the way, fer Pete’s Sake.
I wish Thompson had never left Wisconsin as governor for the HHS Secretary position. Wisconsin has been on a fast downward spiral since he left.
He should have just stayed in WI where he was needed. It's been overrun by liberal bureaucrats for many years now.
Amen sister!
