It's time for conservatives and real small-government/our rights are ours, not by permission from the government folks to take over the Republican Party.
PJ media had an effect on the last election, let's work on pushing some candidates we like and get the GOP to take a serious look at them. Grassroots should feed the candidate list, not a diktat from the top.
Who the heck do we have to run in 2008? The present list of John McCaine, Tennessee Sen. Bill Frist, Virginia Sen. George Allen, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani...does not inspire most conservative Republicans.
Why don't we make our own list instead of yapping constantly about the list the media is pushing. Here is a starter list:
Rep. Mike Pence, IN Sen. Jeff Sessions, AL Sen. Tom Coburn, OK Sen. James Inhofe, OK
I propose we start a permanent thread here on '08 candidates. Let's get information on what some of these possible candidates believe in and have done. Let's then try to reach a consensus on one or two who have real merit and BACK THEM in order to show the GOP they need to be on the short list of primary candidates.
The primary season is so early and so short that to not do this will likely saddle us with the usual weak "moderate" GOP presidential candidate. We don't find a Ronald Reagan by chance, we need to develop that sort of candidate.
'08 does sound like a long time off, but we can't develop good candidates just a few months before the primary season.
I agree with your concern about the November '06 congressional and Senate candidates. It's getting late to pick those guys as states have filings in March or April. You need to pick the good ones for your own state and back them now.
Woo hoo! Looks like something's happening finally. I was beginning to think that it was spiked permanently. Pray for this to blow up huge!
Bump
Oops- posted this alert to the wrong thread- oh well, I'm ALL right! didn't seem to mind, lol
Thanks for turning my serious idea on '08 candidates into a nutter thread.
We need to really just tar and feather the miscreants who are running as unacceptable...and DEMAND qualified candidates.
J.D. Hayworth.
Duncan Hunter.
Heck, even Zell Miller would be better than the passel of liberal RINOs pretending to be other than they are...
You never know what's going to happen between now and 08...but illegal immigration is going to be a huge issue in that election, and I suspect that any Republican candidate who will either legitimize it through a guest worker program or do nothing will be dead in the water.
Sounds good to me! Btw, the 'Able Danger' ping got me here, and is not a "nutter".
Will the real conservative please stand up.
This is not going to be easy since we are not just fighting the democrats, but we our forced to have to fight our internal battle for the soul of the Party with RINO enemies who already hold the strings of power and fundraising in the White House...and don't hesitate to pretend to be conservative when it suits them.
You're right, of course. You see it in some of the RINO posts here on FR. Still, I sent an email to Congressman Pence requesting that he consider a 2008 run and I know who I'll vote for in the primaries. I also know who I won't vote for if the Republican party nominates them, regardless of who the democratic opposition is.
I agree that it's not going to be easy. Still, if we found someone we liked and could agree on, we could divert some cash/attention away from their picks. Remember how Howard Dean did that in 2004. He wasn't an establishment candidate for the Dems.
I'm not sure that I want to give up a good senator to make the attempt.
we have so few real men on our side!
It appears most would rather participate in unending rhetoric, including whining, than DO something. Sad state of affairs.
So far we have:
J.D. Hayworth, AZ
Duncan Hunter, CA
Rep. Mike Pence, IN
Sen. Jeff Sessions, AL
Sen. Tom Coburn, OK
Sen. James Inhofe, OK
From the other thread:
Alan Keyes, former UN Ambassador
Thanks for the ping!
You ARE doing it. John McCain is REALLY unpopular with Republican activists due to the New Media. No matter how hard the Junk Journalists try to prop up McInsane, he is gaining NO traction. KEEP IT GOING!
