It's also funny that comments at source indicate that some people believe this story and are calling for Amazon to go to prison.

I don’t remember the name of the short story in an old sci-fi magazine but it was about a huge wall of computers which could answer any question. The computer answered with a print-out.

Of course, behind the computer was a compartment with a laconic guy and a typewriter.

I had a couple of pleasant conversations with Indian tech support, and one thing I’ve noticed they’re very pleasant to talk to and they have a hard time getting off the phone. For instance if you say “have a good day” they come back with a like response and maybe some more and you answer that, and they answer that, and you answer that and they answer that... it takes a long time to end the call. I usually tell them that I have to get back to work now and thank you very much and of course they respond with thank you very much and I hope that you’re... it must be cultural.

I’ve wondered if some of these things being called AI were really just older computer technology using a database. Now it turns out that it could even be that a gazillion low paid offshore contractors might be called AI.

Is this a satire site? It’s difficult to tell these days.

Amazon phone support ("agent please") has been exception for me, in stark contrast to Comcast (monopoly). The "AI" here sounds like https://answers.microsoft.com , and which often fails to solve dilemmas and locks the forums.

Years ago I went into one of these Amazon stores in an airport to get a water or soda or whatever. It amazed me that it was able to detect what I pulled off the shelf and charge me the correct amount.

Of course now I realize it was about as phony as a Jeff Bezos hairdo.

What keeps anyone without an Amazon account from walking into store, loading up on food and taking off.... haven’t the grab and go gangs figured this out yet?
