I had a couple of pleasant conversations with Indian tech support, and one thing I’ve noticed they’re very pleasant to talk to and they have a hard time getting off the phone. For instance if you say “have a good day” they come back with a like response and maybe some more and you answer that, and they answer that, and you answer that and they answer that... it takes a long time to end the call. I usually tell them that I have to get back to work now and thank you very much and of course they respond with thank you very much and I hope that you’re... it must be cultural.
...and they identify themselves “Bert” or “Janet”
Sounds line a way to hang on to pleasant call and avoid a bad one.
I’ve experienced the same. This tells me they are paid by the hour, not per call.
