These measures aim to address California's significant budget deficit, which has reached $68 billion. The state's approach to increasing revenue involves direct taxation on the assets of the wealthy, with additional scrutiny on asset reporting.

We left CA in 2010, and there was serious talk about an Exodus Tax even then. Forcing someone to be trapped where he doesn’t want to be ... isn’t that kidnapping or similar?

Maybe they should put up a wall like the DDR did and shoot anyone who tries to leave.

Good luck collecting taxes from people who are residents of other states. Doing so would depend entirely on the AGs of those other states. They tried this before and Nevada’s AG told them to go pound sand. I don’t imagine they will be any more successful this time.

It won’t help. There will never be enough money. If they managed to amass a surplus it would turn into a deficit the next legislative session. There is never enough money to sate the vile evil and incompetent Left.

California has been talking about doing this for a while now. Other than this article, I haven’t seen any news about it becoming law..

General Secretary Newsom sure is taking a hard line here, isn’t he.

That happens in NJ all the time. No toll to cross a bridge into it, but you’ve gotta pay up in you want to head back outta the place.

I think my state of TN should charge an “entry tax” for yankee carpet-baggers that flee their sh!thole cities that Democrats made, only to keep voting Democrat.

The “tax” is on net worth. Not on earnings. They look at how much you’re worth, and take .4% of that.

It’s not a tax. It’s confiscation of earned assets which have already been taxed.

I think the SCOTUS will squash the “exit tax”.

A California exit tax was a part of jokes and memes just a few short years ago.

That’s analogous to the Berlin Wall — built to keep people IN.
