Progressive democRATs and communists. What is the difference?
I went to Cuba with a couple of friends when Fidel Castro was running the place. I read about a man online who “knew” Castro so we’d be OK there, sent him the $$ and away we went. Stayed at the best hotel in town and sometimes had running water. Great food though. A lot of Americans and Brits there. We were really disturbed about having such wonderful meals when Cubans were starving.
Cubans we met there told us how much they loved Castro. That was in public. In private they begged us to help them get to the US. Cuba was, of course, a total disaster. The people were quite likable.
As many people do when traveling to poor countries, we brought old but nice clothes with us and left them there. Hotel maids were delighted.
I hope we don’t become the poor country needing clothes from visitors from prosperous places.

Katherine Hepburn in On Golden Pond about the subtle difference of Henry Fonda trying to improve his grumpy attitude and look friendly:
“Sometimes you have to look really hard to see it.”
