A new image from Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios has emerged online.

Shared on Twitter by artist Jose Iturriaga, the Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios image previews the upcoming DC animated feature-length movie set during the time of the Aztec Empire.

Iturriaga's caption reads, "The first official image from the [Batman] Azteca animated film has been released! I had the honor of working as Concept Environment Artist and cannot wait to see the film when it's released on [Max]!"

What do we know about Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios?

Announced by Warner Bros. Animation, Anima, and Chatrone in June 2022, Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios is directed by Juan Meza-León. José C. García de Letona, Aaron D. Berger, Carina Schulze, and Fernando De Fuentes serve as producers on the film, while Sam Register and Tomás Yankelevich are executive producers.

"In the time of the Aztec Empire, Yohualli Coatl – a young Aztec boy – experiences tragedy when his father and village leader, Toltecatzin, is murdered by Spanish Conquistadors," the synopsis reads. "Yohualli escapes to Tenochtitlan to warn King Moctezuma and his high priest, Yoka, of imminent danger. Using the temple of Tzinacan, the bat god, as a lair, Yohualli trains with his mentor and assistant, Acatzin, developing equipment and weaponry to confront the Spaniard invasion, protect Moctezuma's temple, and avenge his father's death."

Or....just another idiotic comic movie, this time geared to appeal to a hispanic/aztec/mayan audience.

WTF cares.

“Batman” is/was not a real person, in case you forgot. People getting all excited about comic movies in recent years ticks me off a bit, truth told. Why even bother to engage with that garbage?

The Aztecs were known for ripping the hearts out of their alive victims. Will Batman Azteca being doing that in the film?

If so, it will be just one more reason for me to not see it.

Notice that in the picture the victim is not an evil white Spanish conquistador, but a person of color.

Personally, I’m sticking with Christian Bale, Robert Pattinson and Ben Affleck as the caped crusader.

I know. I’m so sick and tired of superhero movies. Just give me some Middle Earth and Narnia and I’m happy.

It’s always the evil white man.

Or

Evil German Nazis.

You need to be careful if you show blacks robbing stores, Hispanics in gangs, a Muslim terrorist, a Jewish banker / Lawyer screwing people, a homo that’s weird and a pervert.

Even though, they were heathens and savages by definition. You maybe not call them that today. Not PC.

The Aztecs took the opportunity to sacrifice a few conquistadors as well. According to contemporary accounts, during the battle for Tenochtitlan, groups of Aztec warriors would rush the Spanish line for the sole purpose of dragging back a conquistador and sacrificing him right in front of his horrified fellows. This had the effect of either making them think about retreating, or fighting all the more fiercely.

Just a matter of time before the Azteca gods are adorned over the US Capitol and Whitehouse.

We already have the sacrifices of about 70,000,000 innocent souls.

““Batman” is/was not a real person”

AAWWWW ..... a HATER .... your a hater....

one does not have to be a real person to be a real person
... if one identifies as a real person, then one is a real person even if one is not real or a person as perceived by others. Real is just a false construct developed by euro/Anglican culture in order to dominate indigenous people all over the world , real or not.
so ..... where are my meds ... ya ...the real ones. /s

[Batman is now Hispanic and he fights the evil White man.]

Not Hispanic, which refers to criollos and mestizos, who are Christian Spanish-speakers. A pure-blooded Aztec who worships the old gods is just an indio.

My favorite Batman actor is certainly Homer Simpson. He brought a certain “everyman” quality to the role.

I cannot recommend highly enough an amazing book “The Hummingbird and the Hawk.”

I had a double major in college, Spanish and Archaeology. It did not take long to find out there is no way to pay a mortgage (or most any other bill) pursuing archaeology. I did get to participate in some excavations in Central America.

That said, there are amazing books that inform and entertain everyone. The Hummingbird and the Hawk details Aztec history from long before Cortez, and then the arrival of Cortez. There was a General, Tlacael, who had the ear of both Montezuma I, and Montezuma II. Cortez arrived when Montezuma II was in charge.

Another fantastic book is The Discovery and Conquest of Mexico, 1517-1521 by Bernal Díaz del Castillo. Castillo fought with Cortez for years. At the end of his life, he wanted to leave something. He was mostly blind, and dictated this amazing account from someone who was there.

It is an Otherworld story. Otherworld is DC tells stories about their characters in other situations.

I’m fine with Otherworld stories.
