Nice vid on EV fires where the use of an Electric Vehicle Fire Blanket is used to smother the fire.
They cost about 3k and weigh about 60 lbs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itGeAq9rBeY
Running time about 8 mins.
Is that an extra cost option with every EV?
Unintended consequences...
Plus, my lithium mine will have to close.
No, it’s purchased by the fire department.
Informative video. Thanks for posting.
It’s not ‘smothering’ anything but the burning combustibles unrelated to the ev battery cells.
The blanket ‘contains’ the energetic event. That is all.
It’s just another innovative way to make $$ off of the troublesome transitory ev lithium battery technology until the next evolution in energy storage.
It was a joke.
Tossing a 60 pound blanket could be tough.
It should be.
That stated, I’m sure they’ll find some way to grant an ‘ev fire blanket rebate’ so you & I have to pay for it as well.
Not just the blankets at $3K to $5K per blanket.
Both cars, including the hybrid, had to be hauled away.
With an LE escort for both Jerr Dans.
Expensive, labor intensive.
Insurance companies, their customers, taxpayers are all going to take it in the shorts.
And note the recommendation never to leave the dang things unattended while charging.
What’s not to love.
It’s the Inferno option. Free of charge.
Did they almost lose the vette and a cat? Looks like it could have been the entire house.
EVs are one percent of the vehicles on the road. Just wait until everyone has one!
We could use a few EV’s here to keep us warm
“ No, it’s purchased by the fire department.”
No, it’s purchased by you. The fire department has nothing without first taking it from you, the taxpayer, unless of course it is a private department.
“ Expensive, labor intensive.”
Yep. And while they are doing that, what aren’t they doing and what emergencies are they not responding to?
Get too close to one of those things while it’s en fuego and you’ll be assuming room temp very quickly.
“We could use a few EV’s here to keep us warm”
What, no Wind Farms?
d;^)>
Ummmm....just how is one supposed to get this blanket out of the trunk/whatever from a burning EV to put the fire out?
“The blanket ‘contains’ the energetic event. That is all. It’s just another innovative way to make $$ off of the troublesome transitory ev lithium battery technology until the next evolution in energy storage.”
Agree, and it sounds like the fire chief here could use a lesson on lithium ion batteries - starting with videos of EV cars that are FULLY SUBMERGED in water. In other words, the fire doesn’t need access to the atmosphere to burn, as the oxygen is already contained in its battery cells.
