Two or three, maybe four nations, on our planet, separated by one English Language?
The ‘author’ studied journalism in the US.
He obviously didn’t study hard. 🙄

“Melissa Dennis Hoskins”
So is it a He or a She, or something in between, given the first two names?
“So is it a He or a She, or something in between, given the first two names?”
Given how poorly this article is written, maybe it’s supposed to be Melissa Deniece Hoskins.
if it was the year 2020 this bicyclist would have died of COVID instead of a Ute attack
She was hit by a guy driving a utility vehicle
Dennis is her husband’s last name. Hoskins is her maiden name. I’ve never seen the married name put before the maiden name, but maybe she wanted to be known by her maiden name for competition?
Me too, ride towards traffic, or on the sidewalk. I will stop for pedestrians, but I am not mixing it up with cars. I stick mostly to back roads, and residential areas if near a major road. Mirrors, head on a swivel, and keep the phone in the carrier.
In my town riding against traffic will get you a ticket if you are lucky…or killed if you aren’t.
Of course we are not rural. MA just passed a law requiring giving bicyclists a wider berth. Not sure why they needed a law, it’s just common rules of the road stuff.
Congrats on doing a little more research than the “author” Chris Hollingsworth, with a computer generated image and name. IncPen caught it too. He/it is someone on a website typing “write a 500 word obituary about this cyclist” into ChatGPT, and the AI bot is using Google to throw some facts and quotes together. Convinces a few readers, but most here were suspicious after the first paragraph. How many Hollingsworth’s do you know that are Thai? You reference the more well written and factual bbc article. Cuddos. $10 dolla per article per hour for advertizer clicks. Short story is her husband ran her down on during her bike ride. Sad. We (FR) need to be a bit more critical of the “news articles” we reference as so many are junk like this one. Happy New Year!
I read somewhere she deliberately jumped on “bonnet” of car as it drove off. New Years Eve...may have been wasted...pissed at hubby?
“She was hit by a guy driving a utility vehicle”
What, like a bucket truck or something?
That can be adjusted so if they are hit by a passing car's rear view mirror, they simply pivot out of the way, without moving the handlebar. Mirrycle mirrors used to be able to do that. I hope they still can.
Ute is Australian for pickup truck (lots of small ones available in Australia). The truck bed is called the tray.
Um… who?! The headline makes it seem she just dropped near whereas the actual cause of death was a hit-and-run.
Any motor vehicle would do
