Hamas, in their desire to erase every trace of Jewish features in Gaza, erased the historical embossment in the mosque with the painting of the temple menora, shofar and the four species, as well as the inscription 'Hanania bar Jacob'. Their murderous attacks meant that all the pillars of the mosque are now destroyed.
During the war in Gaza, last week the great mosque in Gaza al-Masjid Ghazza al-Kabīr, also known as " al-Masjid al-ʿUmarī al-Kabīr ", "the Great Omari Mosque", was almost completely destroyed.
This is the oldest and largest mosque in Gaza in the old city of Gaza – and perhaps also one of the oldest in the world, which did not prevent Hamas from turning it, like other mosques in Gaza, into a weapons and explosives warehouse.
Photos published last week showed the mosque with its foundations cracked and the inner halls completely destroyed, while the spire remained intact. The IDF stated that the place was used by Hamas for terrorist activities, and terrorists and a tunnel shaft were found there.
This is not the first time that this mosque has been damaged or destroyed since its establishment. It is assumed that an ancient Philistine temple stood in this place, and a church was built in the 5th century....
After the Arab conquest of the Land of Israel in the 7th century by Caliph Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, the place became a mosque, and after Umar it was called " al-ʿUmarī Mosque". Its beauty was described in the 10th century by the Arab geographer Al-Maqdisi. The spire of the mosque collapsed for the first time in an earthquake exactly 990 years ago, on December 5, 1033, 11 of Tevet 4004, which destroyed large parts of Jerusalem, Ramla, Tiberias and Gaza.

But oddly no one knew in advance about the Oct 7 Hamas attack, when they actually did know in advance according to NYT etc. Were their own sacrificed for another war. Was this something like 9-11 where we spent trillions on Iraq? So do we Americans of obvious and forever declining economic status get stuck paying for this and rebuilding Gaza and Israel and Ukraine? This while our own borders are left wide open and our country is filled up with costly unvetted 3rd world ferals. And rich leftist oligarchs get richer.
We need to wake up the MAGA LION and end our foolish pay the freight affection for countries all over that never seem to pay or help us. My only loyalty is USA USA USA! trust but verify.
The NYT would not know a truth if it walked up and kicked them in the fork.
Don’t want your mosque destroyed? Don’t use it as a weapons depot and terrorist base.
Next difficult problem?
No need to help us with this war. We got it, and it’s practically over. Surrendering in droves. And the aid package for Israel never got through the Senate. Holy moly! Cut the IRS to pay for it? Never!!!!!!!!!!
As for rebuilding Israel, some rebuilding is necessary in the South, but we’ve got that, too. Not the first time we had to rebuild something.

There was chatter and movement at the listening posts, which the head of local intelligence pooh-poohed, and warnings from Egypt, which got ignored. What can one say? It was an unmitigated cluster-f@#$, but we bounced back mos koshee.
The NYT is the paper of shreklechkeit*, but a stopped clock is right twice a day.
* things that make one moan in agony, because they’re so bad.
‘Don’t want your mosque destroyed? Don’t use it as a weapons depot and terrorist base.’
Well said. Now if only every single mosque on planet 🌏 🌍 🌎 earth could v be destroyed along with the sick depraved demonic death cult known as ISlime.
We have been told it is a “refugee camp” by our media.... Must be a nice refugee camp to have a “great mosque”
Everything’s a refugee camp. I used to go through a “refugee camp” along Highway 60 from Kiryat Arba to Jerusalem, and they had a nice new mosque and madrassah, as well as many shops and roadside vegetable stands, with signs in Hebrew and Arabic. Sometimes at night, there’d be no street lights, because a local gang had stolen them and was selling them back to the “refugee camp” administration.
I’ve also seen at least one “refugee camp” within the Jerusalem city limits, with an UNRWA office overlooking it all, but solid houses and paved streets.
It’s a racket.
Interesting.
I keep worrying (/s) that one of the few Hamas rockets fired at Jerusalem will ricochet off of something and scrape the top of the Temple Mount down to the surface. It would be a shame.
I spent a week in Turkey with a Jewish friend before strict Islamist Erdogan became leader. Very American-loving country then. We hired a wonderful English-speaking guide who drove us all over the country. Of course he took us to the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, and I have to say it is (or was) the most beautiful building I’ve ever been in. Destroying any mosque makes no sense unless the bad guys are in there and won’t come out.
I agree. Historic buildings and religious sites should be protected if possible.

Sam book, different chapter: A contractor developed a mapping metal detector for us. In about 1998 or so they contracted with the UN weapons inspectors (Saddam and his proscribed materials) to find buried stuff in the desert. Parts of their equipment would disappear and be available at the roadside market the next day.
It’s the third-world way.
13. Tell that to the Taliban. Oops, happened years ago. Missed it by “that much”.
