Tim Burton Announces Major ‘Beetlejuice 2’ Update

Tim Burton announced Thursday filming for “Beetlejuice 2” has officially concluded, letting fans know they’re one step closer to taking in the new flick.

“Just finished shooting Beetlejuice. Thank you to everyone involved,” he wrote on Instagram. The 65-year-old filmmaker posted the caption alongside an image of himself sitting on a couch on the set of the movie. Production on “Beetlejuice 2” began in London in May, and was nearly complete in September during the SAG-AFTRA strike that put a freeze on Hollywood productions, People Magazine reported.

Burton was so close to completing his film, his team was able to quickly complete the remainder of their work as soon as the strike ended, according to People.

“I feel grateful we got what we got. Literally, it was a day and a half,” Burton previously told The Independent.

“We know what we have to do,” he said at the time.

“Beetlejuice 2” picks up where the original series left off and marks Michael Keaton’s return, according to People. Winona Ryder will also reprise her role as Lydia Deetz, and Delia Deetz will once again be played by Catherine O’Hara.

Monica Bellucci will also appear in the film, alongside Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe and Jenna Ortega, People noted. Ortega’s fans recently discovered she would not be reprising her role in “Scream 7.”

Burton previously teased the movie, and opened up about his on-set experiences in the interview with The Independent.

“On this last one, “Beetlejuice 2,” I really enjoyed it,” he told The Independent. “I tried to strip everything and go back to the basics of working with good people and actors and puppets. It was kind of like going back to why I liked making movies.”

“Beetlejuice” is slated for worldwide theatrical release Sept, 6, 2024.

Oh, SAG-AFTRA, and your strike. I forgot you were there. You may go.

The original came out in 1988. How do these same actors pick up where the last one left off?

Will this be good or another case of no new ideas in Hollywood?

The only sequels I've ever seen that worthwhile were The Godfather and Star Wars. I loved Bettlejuice but I'll give the sequel a pass.

I think the latter. The first one was fun, but sequels are almost always disappointing.

Yes. Let’s just say he’s ‘aged into the role’.

Tim Burton makes great movies. Does he still have his mojo at age 65?

His feature filmography is long, but he has done so many other things: acting, writing, animating, design consulting, short films, tv shows, video game creative consultant, music videos, commercials and more. Here is a table of his feature films. What an amazingly productive man:

The only sequels I've ever seen that worthwhile were The Godfather and Star Wars

This may not be the same thing, but some of the sequels to an original film in a series exceeded the original. "Tarzan and His Mate" was better than the first Weissmuller Tarzan, "Charlie Chan in Shanghai" was the best of the Oland Chan films, and I'm sure you could get an argument over which of the Bond sequels exceeded the original.

That doesn't mean Beetlejuice 2 has a chance; it will likely flop like much of Hollywoke productions of late.

Doc Holliday, is that you?

(I knew I heard that line somewhere. It took me a moment to remember.)

“Beetlejuice 2” picks up where the original series left off ...

Rather strange given the age differences, as others have noted. Why not fast-forward to where Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) has a teenage daughter who discovers the secret of Beetlejuice, maybe with friends, and they bring him back?
