Prostate Problems

Posted on 11/10/2023 8:01:10 AM PST by far sider

I am a 250-lb, 6-foot, 65 year-old Freeper from southern Ohio. I have been on 80 mg FloMax since summer and I don't like it. And it doesn't seem to work that well.

I have seen that there are several different surgical options. I would appreciate anyone who could share their experience and/or advice. Thanks.

I HIGHLY recommend the ‘iodine protocol’. The same thing causing an enlarged prostate is the same thing that causes a thyroid goiter, which is a lack of iodine (this is a mineral and you are MADE of minerals.

There are 2 kinds you can get; liquid is called Lugol’s and the pill form is Iodoral. Also, get L Selenomethionine, magnesium glycinate, vitamin C (with bioflavanoids) and Real Salt (that’s the brand name.

You do NOT want surgery. God intends for your body to heal and we are called to give our bodies what they need to heal. Let me know if you want more info and I’ll gladly give it to you

I am in my late 60โ€™s and had prostrate cancer. I have a great doctor who helped me a lot. He suggested going on FloMax. It works for me... Go to see your urologist and see what he says...

Some tough love here.

First you need to lose weight, like 50-75 lbs, depending on your frame. Don’t give me any crap about your being too old or set in your ways.

Keto, carnivore, Mediterranean lifestyles (NOT diets). Permanent, not temporary. There’s literally thousands of videos on these. Start watching some.

Eliminate sugars. Dessert, ketchup, 1000 calorie “coffees” from Starbucks, copies, candy. Everything.

Eliminate breads.

Absolutely NO alcohol.

Add a zinc supplement.

I’m praying for you.

Go see a urologist. Treatments for this stuff change quickly and you need someone to review your case, specifically. If you are relying on your primary care doc to manage this, get into a specialist ASAP.

Are you taking Flomax or the generic, tamsulosin, which is much cheaper and is chemically identical?

Assuming you suffer from BPH and not prostate cancer - like most โ€œolderโ€ men, of which I am one - a doctor I highly respect recommends prostate artery embolization. Do an internet search, and you should be able to get a good understanding of it.

All the best!

I know two people who wanted to avoid surgery (you can easily lose your “manhood”) and went to a clinic in Mexico where they use non-invasive methods. Not covered by insurance, cost $30k and that was 2 years ago. The one who has talked about it afterwards said he had good enough results to avoid surgery so far and it seems to be “under control”. I know another who had surgery and they cut “the” nerve (happens in some cases) and now he’s, well let’s just say he’s ‘not the same’ if you get my drift.

Sitting in hospital with hubby who just had “TURP” done.
Painful now but find out we do know several guys who had it years ago. Nocturnal should be in the rear view mirror after recovery.

Good point about sugar! A friend said he was told during treatment that sugar is “rocket fuel” for cancers in general. It also aggravates arthritis.

Losing weight and getting in some aerobic exercise often helps a lot of problems. A trusted doctor should advise on anything prostate specific.

Losing weight is a tough road but a medium-build six foot tall man should aim on getting down to 205 or less.

Green-light laser surgery.
It works. And no pain.

I’m in the same boat, 78 years old now. On Flomax for four or five years now. It didn’t restore normal urination, but it does well enough. Looked at three or four surgical and semi-surgical remedies, like laser ablation, and found the probability and severity of “negative outcomes” to be daunting, to say the least. So I put up with the slow flow, and worry more about coping with my chronic low back pain and the apparent deterioration of my heart.

Odd coincidence that this thread should appear right now. I’ll be leaving for the hospital for a TURP in about an hour. Severely enlarged prostate, not cancerous, tamsulosin didn’t work. Didn’t really want surgery, but the doctor says it should restore sufficient urinary flow and should take care of the problem for the next 10 years or more.

Hope your husband is OK.
