Cody Dorman, namesake of Cody's Wish, dies at 17

Cody Dorman, whose bond with namesake Thoroughbred Cody's Wish captured the hearts of the racing world, died Sunday, shortly after watching trackside at Santa Anita as his “best friend” scored a second consecutive victory in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile.
Dorman, who was 17, was born with Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder. Patients typically do not live beyond early childhood.

This story tugged at the heart strings since its inception. The therapeutic relationship between an animal and a child is almost unmatched. The child had one last wonderful moment on Saturday but unfortunately succumbed the following day. Rest in peace.

i couldnt believe it when i read this today...i watched the race Saturday and watched the horse win it. Just an amazing, but sad story, there really are no words...rest easy young man, im sure youll get your WISH one day and ride this beautiful Horse in warm sunshine...

Yup. I don’t follow teams sports closely these days but I nominate the positive nature of this relationship as Sports Story of the Year if there is such a thing. I remember Tyler Trent and the Purdue football team, and when he appeared during the Ohio State game, my screen got real blurry.
