Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon is dead on arrival after its second-weekend box office collapsed to just $9 million.
Apple Studios dropped a reported $200 million into this prestige flick and at least another $60 or $70 million to promote it. Thus far, after two weekends, it has grossed just $41 million domestic and $85 million worldwide.
The problem is the 60 percent drop between weekend one and weekend two. That tells you the all-important word of mouth is pretty awful.
The sycophants in the entertainment media will likely claim Flower Moon took a dive because it is soon expected to stream on Apple TV+. That’s pure BS. Less than ten percent of the American population subscribes to Apple TV+. Additionally, Flower Moon is being sold as an adult epic that must be seen in theaters with two big movie stars: Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.

I’m waiting for that one. Comes out in December.
I grew up in Oklahoma and have Osage friends. It’s a good story to tell but this must not be any good. Haven’t seen and now won’t. Sad really.
THAT is the problem....................
Have read that it could have been done in waaay less time. Some say the movie start out too slow to develop the characters.......................
The trailer I saw seemed to be white guilt type of garbage.
I don’t know how woke the movie is, I haven’t seen it. But it is an interesting story.
Osage Indian murders

This story was done as a segment of the 1959 movie, The FBI Story, starring Jimmy Stewart
Previews looked terrific.
i can’t wait for that one myself... looks great... tru dat
It left people confused wandering who they were suppose to root for. Surely they would come to see that murdering people was not the way to go? Nope.
“When oil is discovered in 1920s Oklahoma under Osage Nation land, the Osage people are murdered one by one - until the FBI steps in to unravel the mystery.”
3H 26M (I wouldn’t even watch a Star Trek movie that long)
all I’ll see of it is the ad for it. Got the gist that it was another woke POS that fell out of Hollywood’s butt.
Indeed. Robert De Niro, OK. But Dicaprio? I don’t get why Scorsese has such a hard on for casting Dicaprio in his movies. He’s just not believable in his roles. And he doesn’t look the part he plays with that baby face of his, even with facial hair.
The book is great.
I’m interested to see it, but a couple of things put me off. I really dislike DeNiro. I really dislike fake Hollywood country accents, which DiCaprio seems to have adopted. And 3 hours is much too long.
Italians....................
It’s not woke. But it is a prestige flic. They aren’t there to make money, they exist to get awards and make a studio “important”. Nobody thought it was going to make money. Scorsese is in that zone though, the studios want to be in the Scorsese business and know they’re going to lose money, and don’t care.
He was great in Inception, The Aviator and others. He might be a putz, but he’s a good actor.
De Niro's political stance is enough to drive me away from anything he's a part of. I hope the movie's revenues drop to zero.
I’m looking forward to the upcoming biopic on Napoleon directed by Ridley Scott.
