Utah's Noelia Voigt is crowned Miss USA in glitzy ceremony that featured first married state titleholder following Miss Universe rule change

Utah's Noelia Voigt has been crowned Miss USA in a glitzy ceremony that saw the contestants showcase their fashion prowess in shimmering mini dresses and stunning gowns.

The 72nd pageant also featured the first married state titleholder following a rule by Miss Universe that has allowed married women and mothers to compete for the first time in its seven-decade history.

Noelia Voigt, 23, oozed glamour last night in a silver frock with a thigh-high split, before swapping into an eye-catching gem-covered gold gown ahead of being crowned Miss USA.

Savannah Gankiewicz of Hawaii placed as first-runner up at the Grand Sierra Resort in Nevada, according to CNN.

Noelia impressed judges with her answer about what she would bring to the Miss Universe organisation as a 'brand ambassador'.

According to Parade, she replied: 'I believe the ability to connect with people is an incredibly important asset that a Miss USA should have.

'The United States of America is an incredibly diverse country, probably one of the most diverse in the entire world. So being able to connect with everybody is important.

'As a bilingual Venezuelan-American woman, I plan to connect with that community of people because the United States of America is a diverse country and a Miss USA needs to be able to represent every community no matter their background, their race, their ethnicity, anything and I would like to be that Miss USA.'

For the last 70 years, the pageant was only available to women who had never been married or had children, but now, both mothers and married women can enter the competition.

'We all believe that women should have agency over their lives and that a human's personal decisions should not be a barrier to their success,' an internal memo obtained by The National said.

She IS a biological female, right? And not a male pretending to be female?

Why not? Rules mean nothing anymore anyway. At least she’s an XX. Does this mean that those who have never been married, etc., can now participate in the Mrs. beauty pageants or is that now defunct? How about the teen beauty pageants? Will they allow adults to compete in those?

As a bilingual Venezuelan-American woman,

Her true colors come shining through. Folks like her would dread me being President.

have you noticed? Every contest has the same 50 candidates and they change names and locations and alternate winners. You win and they get someone to take your place for the next one.

“...that has allowed married women and mothers to compete for the first time in its seven-decade history.”

They had to open the pageant to more contestants. All of the pretty girls these days used to be guys!

Always wondered if the thought of these pageants can be traced back to the female slave trade..
About the only thing you don't see the judges blatantly doing is prying the mouth open to check teeth.
I'm a guy and not complaining about the eye candy.
Just a thought.

Some of those ladies are judges and representatives, not contestants.

“How can she be “Miss” Utah, if she’s married?”

Was going to post the same question. I mean, sure, this stupid pageant can have whatever rules it wants, but they can’t change the plain meaning of words. A married woman is a “Mrs” not a “Miss.”

imho these are not beautiful women in the winsome way that they used to cast beautiful women.

Except for the women who are third from the left and right—they all look like they could be transvestites.
