Sacramento's Democratic District Attorney filed a lawsuit against the Democrat-led city over failure to clean up homeless encampments, escalating tensions between city leaders.
Announcing the lawsuit, District Attorney Thien Ho said the city is seeing a 'collapse into chaos' that reflects the 'erosion of everyday life.'
'We have more homeless people in Sacramento than San Francisco. The community is at a breaking point,' said Ho.
In August, Ho threatened to press charges against city officials if they did not make changes in their handling of the city's homeless crisis.
He demanded that California state capital implement a daytime camping ban where homeless people have to put their belongings in storage between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m., among other rules.
'City Hall allows camping on City Hall property at night, but they don't allow it during the day. I ask the city to extend the same protection they give to themselves to the rest of us,' he said.
Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg responded saying he understands the district attorney's frustrations but said, 'Some of us are actually working day and night to try and make the problem better. You are going about this all wrong.'
Steinberg said he has made offers to work together with the district attorney's office, but now they are acting in bad faith.
The district attorney said he supports a variety of solutions including enforcing laws and establishing new programs to provide services to people facing addiction or mental health issues.
He also backs the proposed changes in the state's conservatorship system that would make it easier for authorities to mandate treatment for those with alcohol and drug use disorders.
In a statement, the mayor said: 'District Attorney Ho issued a letter to the city this morning that deflects responsibility, takes credit for programs the city initiated...

I bet he never saw this problem coming? /s
I agree homelessness is bad - but who is he to "demand changes?" If laws are being broken, doesn't the DA also bear responsibility to enforce them?
This person sounds like he aspires to be a rogue, imperial prosecutor like Garland at the DOJ
Great news for the tsunami of millions of illegals flowing in. Shts gonna explode about 4-6mo before November 2024 methinks.
The folks in Sacramento voted for this, so they’d better get used to it!
Now that's aggressively tackling the root cause of the problem!
Nothing will stop this scourge except a Singapore-like crackdown, reopening (and building new) mental hospitals, involuntary commitment, execution of drug dealers, closing the border, and getting serious with China and Mexico about the drugs they send to the US. Until then, it will get worse and worse with each passing year. The proposed "daytime camping ban" would be a laughable joke if this weren't such a serious problem.
Wait til Xiden issues an Executive Order making every illegal alien a US citizen, eligible to vote in 2024.
My solution would be very unethical.
Preparing to run for office as a hard-liner California conservative. Just getting stuff on record. Mark my word. He’s running for the state legislative spot by March 2024.
Is this how a free county works?
Getting the judge to order “that California state capital implement a daytime camping ban where homeless people have to put their belongings in storage between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m
Earth to Sacremento DA
Camping bans etc are for the elected officials to determine, not a judge. If the people want them that badly, the responsible officals will be changed by the votes of citizens, not by a decree from a judge or bureaucrat.
Apparently in Sacremento, the citizens dont want these changes enough to vote for new representatives.
Or Michelle Lynn Lujan Grisham at the helm of New Mexico.
California cities had laws on the books against homeless people camping or sleeping on public property, and it was very common for police departments to roll into those areas unannounced in the early morning hours and arrest or chase them away and confiscate and dispose of their tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, clothes, etc. But then a few years ago the 9th Circuit Court ruled that public property is exactly that and thus it is illegal for cities to prohibit people from camping or sleeping there.
Every realistic solution to the homeless problem will be shot down by the courts. What are you gonna do, put them in jail? We can’t even put violent criminals in jail these days. There is no viable solution to this.
I spend time at our old house in a nice town on the San Francisco peninsula. Last April or May, a bum was sleeping on a public bench in front of the local Safeway grocery store. I called the cops and got the “there’s nothing we can do - he isn’t breaking any laws” story. I began screaming at the woman about me paying taxes to live in a nice, safe town and bums in town were creating an unsafe environment. “Sorry, sir, there’s nothing we can do.”
It is so damn infuriating.
Cloward-Piven.
I do not have enough popcorn for this.
Cloward / Piven Strategy...
They are not here to fix the System.
They are here to break it.
Mine wouldn’t. Seal up the junkies in a huge, hardened sealed empty building and install drug vending machines. Free. They can request to leave, once. Immediately into a serious drug rehab program. Any slip, back into the building forever until they die.
There are cameras everywhere 24/7 filming. People pay to subscribe monthly to watch. Helps subsidize the costs.
Only thing the living junkies have to do is drag the dead ones each week into a hardened designated room biohazard staff can secure to collect them. If they dont the vending machines get weaker diluted drugs.
Abort 50 million American babies over 45 years, and you need that population to keep things going.
That is why we have no border to the south. Cheap unskilled labor to pay the operating costs of the plantation.
Question... .
You own a farm and plantation with slaves. You castrate and sterilize your slaves. Then slavery is outlawed. How can you maintain the plantation after 40 years? Your labor force is dead or dying. Your crops rot in the fields. Your cattle have run off. Theives stole your hogs and chickens because there is nobody to do the work.
Answer.....Just open your border to low income uneducated proxy slaves. That is what our illegal immigration is now. Proxy slaves like from the past. It's just called "freedom from oppression" now instead of slavery.
“The community is at a breaking point,’ said Ho.”
Sounds like a great place to drop off say 10,000 illegals, you know, the capital of Kalifornia.
