I just found out, because I hadnt been keeping track of it that I was signed up for monthly subscription to an app and paying about $24/monthly for about 2 years.
I don't know how that slipped by me, but it did. Some of you here might be getting ripped off the same way, so Im just suggesting to check it out just in case.
Not happy, because that has never happened before.
That’s exactly why I have never hooked up a credit card to a cell phone.
I took that off the app store as well.
Confirmed just one subscription, billed annually for $5.99. All good.
Yikes. I keep a spreadsheet of all subscriptions. Good idea for me to make sure it is up to date.
Had this happened multiple times when my boys were younger, you need to complain to Apple, and they will very likely reverse the charges or at least some of them. We got all of ours reversed at the time.
my friend had a similar thing happen with the Panera bread app, 12 bux a month for “free” drinks.
i don’t even have a phone, but i keep track of stuff like this on my cc, streaming services ect.
My normal practice is either to sign up for free games, with no pay to play, or I just buy the game outright so there are no further charges,
I’m proud and happy to say we do not have smart phones and all our flip phones are used for are simple calls. Thus this will never be an issue for us.
With regards to our PC, I’ve made it a point to never ever get software that requires a perpetual subscription or annual charges to keep it going. Nor are we dumb enough to store anything on a cloud.
Simple. Don’t ever enter a card number, and don’t ever download an app which costs money.
I have paid for apps, but I have never deliberately paid to play on any app.
However, somehow this app bypassed my attention when I downloaded it and got me to agree to pay to play.
It is just something that I have learned from.
I have one app for 99 cents a year on my tablet and it is paid for via PayPal. So I get an email notification once a year. I will not put my credit card into the Play store.
I get a text and email every time my credit card tied to the Apple store has a charge applied. No sneaking anything by me. I also review every credit card statement every month for any unauthorized purchases.
I look at my bank statement and the credit cards several times a month online. I look for those big and small charges that can be slipped in when you buy something else online.
Way back my uncle said he discovered a AOL charge he was paying for a year. He already had a dialup account with someone else. It turned out his son who did not live there visited and inserted one of the “free” AOL discs and signed up so he could get online on his dad’s pc. He must have missed the other dialup icon.
How he got the credit card number I can only guess....
