Soldier’s Bentley Versus Humvee ASMR Spoof Is Perfection
The War Zone ^ | Aug 14 2023 | Oliver Parken

The iconic Humvee’s rugged, utilitarian design is perfect parody material when compared to the Bentley’s extreme extravagance.

In what has to be one of the funniest military videos we’ve seen in a while, U.S. Army Staff Sergent Tyler Butterworth has created his own version of the viral Bentley-themed ASMR video that has been doing the rounds on social media as of late. Featuring one of the U.S. military's iconic High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (Humvees), the parody juxtaposes the ultra-luxurious, soft-touch surface-laden Bentley Mulsanne seen in the original footage with the Humvee’s absolutely bare-bones, very dated design that is largely absent of any creature comforts.

The two vehicles are basically polar opposites of the automotive world and the video plays on this stark contrast for great comedic value.

A recruiting and retention NCO at Virginia Army National Guard Recruiting, Butterworth is no stranger to poking fun at the latest online trends from a military perspective. Several of his videos, often featuring fellow soldiers, have gone viral on social media. Butterworth also creates educational content for current and future military personnel.

Butterworth jokingly reproduces the ASMR, short for autonomous sensory meridian response, content from the original video using the Humvee.

Starting at the front of the vehicle, we’re treated to the juxtaposing sounds of the model tapping the Bentley’s solid metal “Flying B” hood ornament and Butterworth’s hollow-sounding tap on the Humvee’s ultra-utilitarian hood.

ASMR = "autonomous sensory meridian response", some kind of marketing principle I guess.

YouTube - Military Grade. #bentley #humvee

Excellent work by U.S. Army Staff Sergent Tyler Butterworth.

As of 2021, up-armored Humvees cost upwards of $220,000. Bentley luxury cars feature price tags below and above that figure, with the 2023 Mulsanne model starting at $541,000.

For once the military buys something that costs less than its civilian counterpart ...

ASMR tubers mostly use powerful mics to experiment with sound and whispering. Many find the sounds relaxing. Some of them make a full time living just doing ASMR on youtube.

What I want to see though it Bentley vs Humvee in rockclimbing. LOL

Jeremy Clarkson took a Bentley through some really nasty off-road / dirt roads terrain in a Grand Tour episode, IIRC. It was pretty comical.

Never knew about ASMR, but after this excellent video, may need to start looking for one.

I still remember the insanity of being in the right front seat passenger in a Marine Crops HMMWV: the seat is hard and uncomfortably vertical with very little leg room and I can't see anything in front of me (the fording tube is almost directly in front of me) and I can't see anything to my left (radios in their brackets obstruct my view of the driver) and of course, I can't turn around and see anything behind me,

Essentially, I'm trapped in a blind cocoon of noise, completed by a dirty windshield and a rough ride.

I miss those days!

Just go to youtube and type asmr. Sounds best with headphones/earbuds and obviously someone who is experienced. You’ll be amazed how many different things they incorporate it into, haircuts, medical treatment etc. This guy has like 3 million subs. I sometimes listen to asmr as I fall asleep. It’s similar to listening to those recordings of ocean sounds and stuff.

"Don’t forget the smell."

Ah yes - and the diesel fumes coupled with four of us unbathed and a permanent cloud of dust/sand in our faces.

I left out that the rest of the forward view in the windshield was often blocked by grease pencil scribblings of frequencies, callsigns, and control measures.

It's hard for civilians to imagine the fun.

Laughed my ass off.
My son always tells of rather humorous but damn stupid stories about driving and riding in Army vehicles.
