Heroine flight attendant who thwarted shoe bomber on American Airlines flight from Paris to Miami just months after 9/11 blocks his move from supermax prison

A flight attendant who thwarted the British man who tried to detonate explosives in his shoe on a trans-Atlantic flight in 2001 says he has been pushing to move from his supermax prison back to his native England.

Cristina Jones, 61, said she has been informed that 'shoe-bomber' Richard Reid has been trying to transfer from Colorado prison ADX Florence, also known as 'The Alcatraz of the Rockies', to a nicer confinement closer to home.

'I was contacted as they were notifying me he had made a petition to be transferred back to the UK,' Jones said.

Reid is serving life without parole after he tried to set off the shoe bombs on a Paris-to-Miami American Airlines flight just months after the September 11 attacks.

Though it's not clear the exact prison Reid would have been transferred to, Jones says she was asked what her thoughts were on the possibility.

'It was my understanding that they would always contact me with updates of which they previously did,' she told The Mirror.

'They sought my opinion over his petition, which was, of course, negative. I opposed his move back to Britain.'

In addition, Jones claims that Reid was 'missing' from the prison system for about two weeks recently.

Benjamin O'Cone, a spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, confirmed that he had been outside BOP custody for a brief period.

'There are several reasons why an inmate may be referenced as 'not in BOP custody. Inmates who were previously in BOP custody and who have not completed their sentence may be outside BOP custody for a period of time for court hearings, medical treatment or for other reasons.'

'We do not provide specific information on the status of inmates who are not in the custody of the BOP for safety, security...

Get him a suppostitory made of plastique.

I wonder what the flight attendants would do, if he tried to set off a plastique suppository?

Why is the U..S. government so wager to free him? If they allow him to transfer to the U.K., do they lose control of him permanently? Are they going to give him a medal?

Was it the guy involved in the 1988 Lockerbie 747 bombing?

The Libyan.

Thanks, Obama.

They better not release the guy.

There are millions of Americans who want him dead, and they reinforce that conviction every damn time they have to take off their shoes and put them in a damned bin before getting on a plane.

Please! The terrorist’s name is ABDEL RAHIM!

The media seems determined to hide his true beliefs by continuing to call him by an English name, even against his will. They would NOT do this to a sports figure.

My wife would laugh at me if she weren’t so obviously annoyed with me.

When I have to take off my shoes in public, I look down at my socks that are wearing thin at the big toe (if it hasn’t alread poked a hole in that sock) as I pad around on a cold, dirty floor in a public area, and I mutter an oath directed at that shoe-bomb SOB.

Of course, anytime we go anywhere, on a plane, crossing a border, I always-ALWAYS-get pulled off to the side for special treatment.

My wife snickers knowingly when this happens...

That's been my fate as well. Also they want to separate you from your personal items as the conveyor belt and foot traffic are at different paces. I have sworn off flying again. I'll drive no matter how far.

I have neuropathy in both legs below my knees (nerve damage from numerous back injuries and surgeries) and don't feel my feet at all.

Me having to take off my shoes, get through "security" (what a laugh that is..) and then put my shoes back on hurriedly never goes well.

And every time I have to do it, I mutter "f***ing muslims" to myself.

My long term girlfriend of 5+ years now used to chuckle when it happened the first few times we flew together to go on vacation.

I think it was after the third time she stopped chuckling seeing how frustrated I was at all this nonsense WE AMERICANS go through because of those f***ing muslims on that day, and developed some empathy for what I have to go through to get through TSA (again, what a JOKE TSA is!)

Now she'll take whatever I'm struggling with away from me so I can focus on getting my shoes on and feel more secure while walking, and get to the gate. It's NOT easy walking on those slippery tile floors in airports in socks, when you cannot feel your feet. I dread it. I really do.

Oh, one more thing: about a month after 9-11 the Advertising Agency I was working for at the time here in Chicago sent a group of us out to Microsoft in Redmond to talk to their product development and OS Platform teams. We did that at least once a year.

I was sitting in an aisle seat, fairly close to the cockpit on a 737. Across from me was a large muscular guy and we were just chatting about where we were going when a group of muslims in their traditional garb got on the plane. It was about 8-10 of them I seem to recall.

The guy across the aisle from me looked me right in the eye and said "if any of them go for the cockpit, I'll take 'em out low and you take 'em out high." I nodded in agreement.

I cannot tell you how others on the plane felt about this large group of muslims on the plane so close after 9-11, I can only tell you that this other guy and I were pretty hell bent on protecting that cockpit - no matter what, that day.

I was in much better shape back then. Now I'm just turning into a fragile old man who's only hope at this point is his sniper skills. Hand to hand combat is off the table for me.

I wish they had taken him off that plane and walked him into a gravel pit, left him standing there and neutralized the threat with a reinstalled fuse and harmonically inducted, supplemental explosive.

The world would be a better place.

When they fail to explode, we should really help.

100%. In this, my sympathies and innate humanity are lacking.

Drastic times call for drastic measures.

By the way, what is that from? I thought it was totally not a real thing, a joke because some people are laughing thoughout it, but there is a woman in a blue Hajib to the right of the joker who looks like she might no be in on the joke!

It reminds me of something I saw a few years ago, and have never been able to find it...

It had something to do with a joke narrative about a guy who went to Mecca for the big pilgramage (that happens maybe twice a year?) and he thought he would make some money by making a vest with pockets so he could store bottles of water he was going to sell, but didn’t realize that buying the water bottles with the cap attached by a plastic cable had the look of an explosive vest, so when he opened his coat to begin selling water, the crowd beat him to death! (in the joking account, his wife was lamenting his demise, if only he hadn’t used those types of water bottles...)

I thought it was a pretty funny thought

RE- your video clip - that was a very funny movie about stupid terrorists. “Four Lions”, IIRC.
