NFL Owners Set to OK 49ers' Levi's Stadium as Host of Super Bowl 60

At the NFL league meetings in March, the San Francisco 49ers were confident they would be bringing the Super Bowl back to Levi's Stadium.

Barring a sudden change of direction, that confidence will be rewarded at the spring owners meetings in Minneapolis next week. There, the 49ers' bid for Super Bowl 60 in 2026 is slated to be approved by the NFL, a league source said, confirming a report by Sports Business Journal.

"If the Bay Area has the opportunity, we would be honored to host Super Bowl LX," 49ers president Al Guido said in a statement.

Should the Bay Area bid be accepted, it would bring the Super Bowl back to Levi's Stadium for the first time since the Denver Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 and be the third Super Bowl played in the Bay Area. The Niners beat the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XIX, a game that was played at Stanford Stadium in 1985.

Niners executives have been confident about bringing the Super Bowl back to Levi's for the past few months. At the March league meetings in Phoenix, the Niners sought a $120 million loan from the NFL's stadium fund to make improvements to Levi's Stadium.

That money is slated to go toward premium seating and scoreboard upgrades at Levi's with an eye toward the 2026 World Cup and bolstering their position for future Super Bowls.

Niners chief executive officer Jed York was enthusiastic about the chances of another successful Super Bowl bid.

"My optimism is very high," York said on March 28. "I feel very confident that we're going to get a Super Bowl in the near future. And it would be great to get Super Bowl 60 after hosting Super Bowl 50. ... It would be fantastic to be able to bring that game, certainly after bringing the World Cup to Levi's Stadium and having the Super Bowl to follow that. Those are two truly the largest sporting events in the world, and having those back-to-back would be fantastic."

Levi has a terrible surface. Keep in mind Levi is about 45 minutes South of San Francisco.

I would have thought they’d be awarded SB 69.

It’s Santa Clara, not San Francisco.

In three years San Francisco will be a dystopian disaster. To quote Gruden, Goodell is a “clueless anti-football pussy”. That would explain why he would have a super Bowl in a lousy stadium and a failing city.

1. Screw Gruden,. He is friends with Goodell and all those people he’s just as guilty as them. Some of us wanted to have Goodell fired 16 years ago, when Gruden was his best buddy. By the way, why did the NFL think it was wise to hire a commissioner that was already a lackey to one owner?

2. Levi Stadium is not in San Francisco. Buy a map.

San Francisco is a good hour's drive away from Levi's Stadium, which is in Santa Clara, the heart of Silicon Valley.

A first for me last sb.... didn’t watch one play. It’s very long time coming...but really... it’s a throw-fest and a penalty fest...and the players just want to perform for better contracts...and many of the fans at the game are just FOMO freaks. Rather tend my garden...and my animals, and fix things around the house...or drive about while everyone is getting fat and drunk...watching the recent obscene halftime shows and arguing over each commercial...
But everyone can opt to watch it...not my call...

The stadium is across the parking lot from the Mariott Hotel, where the California GOP has frequently held its conventions.

You set foot there in SF recently?

it already is, but Oakland is worse.

also, Levi’s Stadium is 45 miles down south on US101 from SF.

One suspects a lot of places don't want to host the super bowl, similar to the Olympics. Some of the previous super bowls still haven't had a full disclosure of the costs to the taxpayers via government agencies and transit agencies in the area.

If places really wanted it, there would be a wait list ten years out instead of one as soon as 2026 where they're just deciding to locate it there.

Why wait? Out of the fishbowl:

60 follows 50, which is the samech following the nun, spelling the word nes, "miracle". Somewhere around here I have a post detailing how the samech is the hidden fish of the alef beit (the nun is the revealed fish). Together, a miracle.

Just as Arlington isn’t Dallas. At least the XFL team got it right.
