Ray Liotta’s cause of death has been revealed one year after he passed away suddenly in the Dominican Republic.
The “Goodfellas” star died from heart and respiratory issues, according to TMZ.
Documents obtained by the outlet cite pulmonary edema — or fluid in the lungs — as well as respiratory insufficiency and acute heart failure as the specific causes.
Medical authorities also listed atherosclerosis — a thickening of the arteries caused by a buildup of plaque in the inner lining — as an underlying issue.
Liotta died in his sleep in May 2022 while filming “Dangerous Waters” on the island nation. He was 67.
The “Field of Dreams” star was survived by his 24-year-old daughter, Karsen, and fiancée Jacy Nittolo, who was with him while filming.

Chain smoking and too much pasta.
Not that dying is usually ever a good thing but it sure beats dying on the other side of that island that’s for sure. 😏
James Gandolfini collapsed and died after a big dinner in Rome.
He died in his sleep.
That’s the way to go, God willing...............
True, but he was overweight to begin with, wasn’t he?..............
Yeah I think so.
The “Goodfellas” star died from heart and respiratory issues, according to TMZ.
Medical geniuses over there at TMZ, I tell you.
Yeah as I understand it Gandolfini was around 275 pounds when he died......that coupled with smoking usually ends badly.
Smoking cigarettes is the single largest cause of preventable death in the US. Diabetes/obesity isn't even close.
My wife and I still joke every time a helicopter flies overhead that "it's been following me all day."
Not true. Fortunately for Marlboro theres always Pfizer.
At least he didn’t get whacked by Jimmy Conway.
The numbers on obesity are not accurate since they use BMI.
One of my favorite actors, as evidenced by him not being on my personal “dislike Hollywood leftists” list...
Have you seen the fat girl dancing on the commercial for some prescription drug? It usually airs on Sunday morning. Talk about a whale.
Whale! Cow are you?
At least Ray had an excuse... He died because he lived hard.
I feel for bad for the exercising vegetable eating non-smokers who die in their 30s, 40s and 50s from cancers, brain aneurisms and blood clots. That’s a shame.
Don’t cry for Ray.. He lived a pretty decent life.
ok, calling this a little light on the description. Pulmonary edema doesn’t “just happen”; it’s most common with congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and the C-word. They said he had arteriosclerosis which inhibits blood flow to/from the heart but its a far cry from congestive failure.
Wasn’t that old, not obese. Not saying what the cause is, but its like blowing up your engine and blaming a coolant leak. Yes, the leak was a problem and unaddressed will cause engine seizure by turning your oil into sludge/blowing out gaskets, but the seizure is not caused by a leak.
