Been to the “War Zone” in Albuquerque- weird combo of zombie addicts and FOB immigrants working hard to get out of there.
We had Burger King on some of the bigger bases in Iraq. It was a decent “go-to” if you weren’t enthusiastic about what was on the chow hall menu that day. I liked the Chicken Royale sandwich or the occasional Whopper. They were decent then and a nice little taste of home.
I haven’t been to one since I came back to the States for good almost ten years ago.
Hmmm ... was that what "Wake Up With The King" was all about?
Our BK has a great location yet other than at breakfast you rarely see any traffic. I haven’t at at BK is over a year. They had a BOGO chicken sandwich offer and I tried to order that and they were clueless to their own sell in progress.
Their food and service is awful even for fast food. The sonic next door is constantly packed.
Yup. Those filthy dreadlocks that are never washed constantly dangling over the food.
‘There simply is no room for franchisees who are not willing or able to work hard to operate restaurants that are better than the system average over the long term.’
That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. The thing with “the system average” is that there will ALWAYS be half the sites ABOVE “the system average”, and will ALWAYS be half the sites BELOW “the system average”.
That’s what the word means, it’s the AVERAGE of all the sites. Ugh.
The problem with BK is their franchise system. They have franchises that operate BKs in far flung states, unlike a franchise given for a certain region. If you own BKs in NY,FL, and other distant states you have to fly a distance to check on them, which you can’t check store quality often.
Their fries and any other fried items taste like battery acid was used.
It usually means old cooking oil.

I do/did not know that McDonalds, Wendys, Taco Bell, KFC, ect prevent that same kind of multistate franchise owners. It that true, only BK permits that?
There’s more competition, but BK’s problem is their sloppy food prep, poor customer service, and dirty stores.
The QSRs that do the best have stable corporate ownership. McDs has had the same “ownership” since its creation. BK, Wendy’s, KFC, etc have been passed from corporate owner to corporate owner who were more interested in profits/investment/supplying the franchisees.
McD’s always has better food at its Non-US locations..probably being able to charge more, food laws requiring higher grade ingredients, better and fewer locations.
I rather like the Whopper (no cheese). I grab one of the turnpike if I’m hungry.
