A missing Illinois man was found by his wife "mummified" in the storage space of his "hoarder home" eight months after he went missing in 2022.
The Troy Police Department had asked for help from the public to look for 53-year-old Richard Maedge after his wife Jennifer Maedge reported him missing on the afternoon of April 27.Police said that the man had told his wife he was leaving early for work that morning and that when he went missing, his car was at their home and his wallet and keys were left behind.
After eight months of looking for her husband, Jennifer Maedge said in December that the search was called off, and she was mourning her husband. She had gone to a storage space to look for a tote containing Christmas decorations and found his body.
A report from Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn released Thursday said that the man had died from suicide.
Kelly Rogers, the county’s chief deputy coroner, told KTVI-TV that the man's body had decomposed to the point where it was in a state of mummification because the fluids in the body had dried up completely.
Rogers said that police had described the home as a "hoarder home" when they initially searched it looking for the missing husband.
Sometime between the time he went missing and when his body was found, Richard Maedge's wife had called a plumber over a foul odor in the home. The odor appeared to subside after the plumber placed a cap on one of the basement sewer pipes.
The coroner said there were other injuries on the man's body and that police did not suspect foul play.
Sounds like a two part hoarder episodes needed for this one
No linkee.
Wives often complain they have a husband who's always underfoot at home.
I was about 2 seasons away from qualifying to be on hoarders.
But I hired a house keeper who has been going through my covid and pre-covid food hoards. Almost everything is expired. Had to call the local trash company twice for special one off trash pickups.
So I’m now several years away from being on hoarders. But I can see the fireplace again. The pantries are no longer so crowded that you can’s see past the front wall of food.
Refrigerator is nearly empty. She doesn’t know about the second refrigerator yet. Or the freezer burned stuff in the Freezer. Or the cases of canned vegetables in the garage from 2015.
I wonder who the number one suspect is? 😆
Why would she be looking for Christmas decorations in March?
Good point.
Where does it say that?
Husband went missing in April and turned up eight months later (December) when wife was looking around for Christmas decorations.
This makes me rethink my desire for being called to by my wife less frequently.
March is when the Blaze reported it.
It doesn’t say how her mummified husband looked hangin’ on the tree.
Obviously trans. A daddy who identifies as a mummy
Ok, I AM an old lady, but canned food will last for many, many years. I just got a new fridge, and I found food in the old freezer section from 2015; (I threw it out).
Sounds like she wasn’t much of a house keeper.
Nope. He could have fallen off of a stack of stuff.
Being a good housekeeper is impossible with one hoarder, let alone two.
A hoarder will not let the other person move, or throw away, anything. It is infuriating.
