Metformin, the gold standard for diabetes treatment, causes modest weight loss The cheap drug is popular among tech figures for purported anti-aging benefits
It is one of several highly popular tools out there for promoting weight loss
A cheap diabetes pill has become the latest craze among tech moguls who claim it can reverse aging and melt body fat - but it can cause explosive diarrhea.
Studies show the 20c pill promotes weight loss, while preliminary studies in mice models suggest the medication can improve life and health spans.
Metformin - the world's most common treatment for type 2 diabetes - has gained traction in recent years among people like Ariel Poler, a veteran angel investor in biotech, and Jim Mellon, a UK entrepreneur and co-founder of the biotech firm Juvenescence.
Metformin has in some ways been overshadowed in recent months by other, more effective weight-loss drugs like Wegovy and Ozempic.
But those drugs can cost more than $1,000 a month, need to be injected regularly and are currently facing a national shortage.

This is for you, even if you are just an aspiring tech mogul or an AI chat robot.
But wait!!!
Isn’t it illegal to use drugs for “off label” purposes???
Combine with prunes
I’ve been on Metformin for years. No wonder I look 40 years younger!
I mentioned the supposed anti-aging benefits to my bariatric doctor. She had never heard of it. Went to the eye doctor. He mentioned I was on it but my blood work didn’t look like I needed it. I said I wanted to stay on it for the anti-aging benefits. Got a blank look.
“Combine with prunes”
HIGH EXPLOSIVE!!
It quite threw my systems out of whack — enough so that it is listed as an allergy now. It barely lowered my A1C, and then it climbed again despite taking it and watching diet. Glimepride was not much better. Mounjaro, a new weekly injection, has helped me get my A1C from 14.8 to 5.4 and kept it there. I have also managed to lose 70 pounds.
So, all that said, I have no pleasant experience with it... nor did my wife.
“Got a blank look.”
April 2020. Me - “Doc, what do you think of the COVID prophylaxis protocols? Quercetin, Zinc, Vit D3, Melatonin, and NAC? What about Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin? What do you think of those for prophylaxis.”
Doc, via messaging (I could just see the blank look or his corporate bosses breathing down his neck). “Do what CDC recommends.”
I felt like responding “You mean go to the hospital, get on a ventilator and wait to die?”
I’ve been losing weight, but I’m not getting any younger.
Perhaps only moguls get younger?
Or perhaps I need to use the moguls’ drugs?
In the end, I believe Berberine will turn out better
I’m STILL looking for a different primary as mine espouses the CDC and jabs. God luck to me as I’m in NY.
Dude, it’s a joke.
You don’t recall how aghast the MSM world was at a deworm medication being used for a virus? How many medical professionals careers and lives were ended/altered for advocating a medicine for off label use?
Now the same MSM world advocates a diabetes drug for weight loss and it is all week and good.
Maybe the irony is lost to us all.....
I’ve been on Metformin for over 20 years now. I’m approaching 60, and people say I look 44-50.
That doc of mine left the clinic and went off to join a medical startup company. His heart didn’t seem to be in treating people. I split time between Idaho and the California Bay Area. I went in for some blood work today in Mt. View, CA and they STILL have mask requirements. THREE years later!!
It’s much more reasonable in Idaho.
Been on metformin for a decade.
In that time I have lost 40 lb. So it may actually work, but I credit my diabetic diet.
It has issues - like, let us say, adding urgency to certain personal needs, often at inconvenient times.
Been bio-hacking with Metformin over 8 years. I had ZERO comorbidities before I started.. SLOWLY. Blood pressure over time has decreased from 132/90 to resting BP at 107/64 or so. Im 68 this summer and am frequently told I look 50. Maybe. I take NR for NAD+, 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil in the am. GLYNAC. low dose aspirin, B-12, 500mg vit C X 3 daily. I lift weights and eat twice a day in a 6 hour window.. Y’all ought to google search metformin studies. OH and I take regular Met to avoid the potential of timed release allegations of cancer with the additives.
thanks for that. Metformin hasn’t helped me lose weight and i can’t get my V.A. Pharm Doctor to look at
Mounjaro. My daughter lost a spit load of weight with Mounjaro and she doesn’t have diabetes.
Been looking at Ozempic and\or Wegovy but a recent article says it wrecks your guts.
