I thought it was being dumbed-down because people want to look at pictures rather than read. Should'a known it was all about the $ (and pleasing the snowflakes).

more “brand safe” content to advertisers Any "hard" news is so politically charged and crisis-mongering anymore that I think people are being turned off. Even if you agree with the politics, news is just throwing red meat into the water. Hopefully people are getting exhausted by perpetual outrage and perpetual crisis. In that way, moving to soft news items makes sense.
