Albino porcupine rescued by British Columbia sanctuary

Dec. 15 (UPI) -- A British Columbia animal shelter announced an unusual "new guest" at its facility -- an albino porcupine.

The Northern Lights Animal Sanctuary said in a social media post that the porcupine, dubbed Coconut, was found chewing through hydraulic hoses and electric cables on a Smithers resident's property.

The sanctuary said the porcupine is an albino, meaning its body and eyes are completely devoid of pigment. They said the condition is very rare in porcupines.

The post said the "new guest" will receive "room service" at the sanctuary for a few months.

Sanctuary officials said Coconut will spend the winter with them, but may be released back into the wild sometime next year.

Why don’t they euthanize it?

Obviously a racist white supremacy porcupine. Better throw him in prison

Uhh, an albino in the winter, with snow all about; has an ADVANTAGE! Why are you imprisoning him?

We have a lot of porcupines in our high elevation New England town—lots of interesting “experiences”.

Many years ago there was a porcupine hiding in the garage.

I had no clue how to get it out of there—but the Internet had the answer....

Porcupines hate bright light.

If you shine a flashlight behind it, then it will move away from the light.

Then you can “herd” it out of the garage.

I remember seeing a hound dog that had encountered a porcupine. Had needles all in his nose. Poor thing...............

My pit got into one. The experience made him mad, and he hunted them after that. Not good when he found one.

Personally, I consider that porcupines can make little porcupines (and the male survive) a proof that creation was a divine act.

My pooch got a snoutful of quills years ago. The vet said to cut off the ends of the quills to release the air; then the quill could be gently pulled out.

Porcupines are an IQ test for dogs.

Examples from dogs we have owned:

Chow chow—tries to eat them and get quills stuck inside their mouth—low IQ.

Springer Spaniel—stands about three feet back and barks loudly but does not attack—high IQ.

Lab/Hound mix—sniffs porcupine and may get a quill or two—medium IQ.

;-)

Springer Spaniels are the dumbest thing on four feet.

My fog knee ehst would happen to him. He thought it was worth it. He once grabbed a porky and shook it until the hide he had hold of came off. I had ahold of him, or he’d have grabbed it again.
