Matthew Perry’s battle with addiction didn’t only nearly cost him his life — it came with a staggering price tag, too.
“I’ve probably spent $9 million or something trying to get sober,” the “Friends” star admitted to The New York Times in an interview about his upcoming memoir detailing his harrowing near-death struggle.
By the time he almost died at the age of just 49, Perry also realized he had spent more than half his life in treatment centers or sober living facilities, he said.
His life as “a drug addict” — which he insists in the book is proof “there is a hell” — also cost him his dream of marriage and a family, he said.
“I think I’d be a great father,” he poignantly told the Times

Agreed. Let’s just hope he can stay clean and sober so that he can enjoy the world God has given us. And having a fairly large pile of money doesn’t hurt at all.

With chronic high dose use, YES.
Yeah, opiods cause extreme constipation especially at the high levels he was taking (like 55 pills a day).
He’s a sad case, but if you check the residuals the cast of ‘Friends’ are still receiving, each one of the six main characters are currently receiving about $20 million per year.

Yes, that's my takeaway. Perry had the world and he squandered it away, now he is actively looking for sympathy and trying to make buck with a book.
This is encouraging when it’s been reported that they were actually worshipping satan backstage before taping the shows. Not ALL actors have sold their souls. Glad he figured out that Hell is real. Praying that means he discovered Jesus is real and becomes and evangelist.

If you had a good performer at your job who was liked by everyone…but he would show up to work drunk or otherwise compromised…how would your company handle it? And would anyone there call him a hero?

Oh…absolutely. A few days on morphine for a kidney stone and sitting on the toilet was almost as bad as the stone.
Addiction is a devil. It's even worse when you're rich and famous because there's no bottleneck to acquiring drugs.
Look at Anthony Bourdain. Dude probably had the coolest job in the world and still killed himself.
