Months before a 19-year-old shooter opened fire Monday inside a St. Louis high school, his family told police he had a gun, and had it removed from the home, officials said Wednesday.
The family was aware the gunman had mental health struggles and did “everything that they possibly could have done” to help him —including getting him therapy, medication and committing him on several occasions — but “sometimes that’s not enough,” interim St. Louis Metropolitan Police Chief Michael Sack said during a news conference.

The parents did the right thing removing the gun. Had they not, knowing his issues they may be held responsible. I see he was 19. I believe parents are on the hook for their kids now up to 26. Health care, child support etc. Better judgment than the Crumbleys in Oxford, MI last Winter. Hey, its little Johnnys Birthday. Lets get the little psycho a gun. Great parents. Fled from justice. Found hiding out in an abandoned building in Detroit hoping for the right time to cross into Canada.
Institutionalize him. Was the right answer.
***the gunman had mental health struggles***
Proof we need to reopen the closed mental health facilities closed down in the 1970s.
Had they remained open there would have been far fewer mass murders since the 1980s since so many mass murderers have shown signs of mental illness before they went on a tear.
Problem is if those facilities are reopened and the same standards used as in the 1950s, several of the Biden administration would be the first in line to be incarcerated.
what’s wi the missing handguard?
I thought they said he didn’t have any family.
Of course, I didn’t believe them, but that’s what they said.
We raised to adopted kids from foster care. Both had mental issues. My goal during their whole treatment process was to have a defense against any claims arising from their crazy-ass actions.
We did all we could but there was no helping those to socio/psychopaths.
Now every time I hear of a shooting or hit & run; I scan the article to see if it was one of them.
Well, when you are groomed and funded by the FBI, getting access to any kind of weapon is easy.
Lets not forget that the school knew what he what he was about, had complete legal authority to search the kids backpack-which they didn’t do, and never called law enforcement-as they were required to do.
Ultimately, the little POS was responsible for everything, but the mechanisms were there and the principal and school admin did nothing.
My biological daughter was the best anyone could ask for. Graduated HS and joined the Marines and is now a dental hygienist. Best years of my life.
When you have a vulnerable mind in the grip of scientific psychological and pharmacological mental programming, nothing can be "enough" except a bullet in the brain matter.
School shootings are not accidents, they are policy.
There is that also.
The article says the family had the killer committed to
a mental facility more than once. The police do not know or will not divulge, how he obtained the rifle used in the recent shooting. If he bought it “legally” how did he pass the background check? Where did he get the $$ for rifle, magazines, ammo?

My questions almost exactly. I would add ‘I know none of his friends.’ I have a similar problem with one of my sons...he was a perfect human as far as I know until he left home with in a few weeks of HS graduation. He is very talented mathematically and had an invitation to attend a college where math was then their true speciality. He is now so very different it is shocking.
You probably know more about this than I ever will, but lots
of boys/young men experience major changes in their biochemistry from late teens to early 20’s. Many weather it with no long term problems; others have problematic changes in personality and mental condition.
I wish you and your son all the best. From experience with my wife’s nephews — sometimes brothers know who the hidden friends are and what is really going on.
It’s one of those “Escape From New York” ARs.
right??? not for civilian use...
