NTSB in favor of new speed limiting system

The National Transportation Safety Board is recommending new speed limiter technology.

According to a CNN Business report, an electric car equipped with this intelligence speed assistance program knows the speed limit wherever the particular car is traveling.

A video demonstrating this speed-limiting program on the CNN Business website showed New York City Deputy Mayor of Operations Meera Joshi is driving a vehicle equipped with the program.

While demonstrating the speed limiter program Joshi, formerly FMCSA’s acting administrator, said, “I’m pressing the pedal, but you see actually the number is going down.”

If we were ruled by the good kind, they wouldn’t need to steal elections. :-)

The ultimate goal is that the speed limit is set to 0 for everyone but the elites. The rest of humanity will be a prison population with no freedom of movement.

I’ll ‘accidently’ disconnect the GPS.

Autonomous cars will be their dream.

You will not own a vehicle. You will have a subscription.

When you need a vehicle, you call for one similar to an Uber.

You tell them what you need (pickup for hauling, just a ride, or a minivan for the whole family).

Vehicle shows up, collects you and takes you to your destination. There will be no steering wheel.

All vehicles will speak with each other and the infrastructure (traffic lights, road signs, etc) and traffic will flow smoothly.

Of course, they will know your movements every step of the way....but they know that now if you carry your mobile phone with you.

Someone (cough, cough, not me) will hack the system and then tell the cop they were only going as fast as the car allowed and didn’t need to check the posted limits because the car takes care of that. What’s the point of having a computer if you can’t hack it and make it do what you want?

“We need this technology applied to taxation, gov’t spending and Inflation, not vehicles.”

I agree with you 100% on the first point, and I do NOT want this in any of my vehicles

— HOWEVER —

This is why the focus on electric cars is, right now ‘clean and safe’ — soon it will be ‘they do not pay their fair share of road tax - wee need to tax every mile your car is driven.’ Oh, and you drive too fast we’ll fix that with the next update.

Those fancy electric cars doing zero-to-sixty in 1.3 parsecs will be deploying the airbags at 61mph.

I wonder if anyone has done a study on the use of speed limiters and effects on traffic flow, especially traffic waves...

I’ll ‘accidently’ disconnect the GPS.

Then you'll get a kick in your door from the Washington Sturmabteilung, hauling you off for your car not reporting back to central control.

Sorta related. Certainly interesting. From 2017...

Effects of low speed limits on freeway traffic flow

If Deep State succeeds in getting speed limiters mandated, it's going to have to lower speed limits.

Betcha that will be next.

I guess that a “speed signal code” would be sent out for the road, or maybe the car could “read” the speed limit sign. I hope no one comes up with a “cheat” system to change a speed limit from say 70 MPH to 45 MPH….. or develops an override to the system….

I would hate to have a very long trip at 45 MPH 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Oh and what about speeding ticket revenue? What will small towns do?

Skwor wrote: “A horribly bad idea, though rare I absolutely have been in situations where speeding up prevented an accident.”

Supposedly, there is an ‘override’ which allows for speeds above the limit for a temporary time (15 seconds). I’m sure that will require entering a user name and password of fifteen random characters, of a least two upper case, two numbers, and at least two special characters. Shouldn’t be a problem.
