Great song, always will remember it, but some gal/guy(pronoun) from The New York Times tried to age appropriate the 80's, with her/him(pronoun) hair style on ABC This Week.

Him/her name was Jane Coaston.

I think it reached number one. Either way, very popular song.

Always reminds me of my Manhattan years

That and Avalon

And Smiths and Cure and Depeche and early REM

There name wasn’t “Thompson” and they were three of them, not two.

My favorite from these guys was “Lies.” It has a great beat:

Everybody focuses on the excellent vocals but that bass just cooks.

Sometimes I hear a song I’ve heard before, many times, but for some reason all the times before the listening was a blur during which I did not really isolate the lyrics, then I hear what is to me a new performanc of the song, and finally I am listening to the lyrics - this was one of those occasions.

Saw them in concert in the mid/late 80s. I want to say they open for The Powerstation, but I can’t remember

I'm old.   In the Eighties I was busy working shift work making a living and listening to Hard Rock and Southern Rock to stay awake at night.   Let me just say, this isn't my kind of music.   But there are several Eighties songs that have grown on me over the years.

Crazy ones with a hook, like "Oh Yeah - Yello", "One Night in Bangkok - Murray Head", *Keep Your Hands To Yourself - Georgia Satellites", "Let's Talk Dirty In Hawaiian - John Prine", "The Tide Is High - Blondie", "Shout - Tears for Fears", and "Owner Of a Lonely Heart - Yes."

I was at Live Aid in Philly and, by far, the most surprisingly good band that day for me was the Thompson Twins. I expected nothing special, but they blew the place up with a great set from a large really talented group of musicians.

Biggest disappointment that day was a very drunk and lackadaisical Led Zeppelin. They sounded like a bad Led Zeppelin cover band.

"Him/her name was Jane Coaston."

Her trans partner is named Defecate or Jefecate, something like that.

The earlier TT songs were less overproduced and clever enough, like "Love On Your Side" quoting the "In The Name Of Love" chorus from the prior album (and introducing it in the song with the line: "I've played you all my favorite records").

The band was doomed from the start, though. Condensed down to 3, broke up 3 years later, then Bailey married Currie and that broke up, now Bailey does 80s festivals alone with hired hands as "Thompson Twins Tom Bailey".
