Morning show host Jenna Bush Hager said Monday she had a "lovely" dinner with then-Prince Charles the night before Queen Elizabeth II died, adding that she thought that the timing of his mother’s passing was likely a "surprise" to him.
"It was a lovely meal," Bush Hager, the daughter of former President George W. Bush, said on her show "Today with Hoda & Jenna." The journalist had flown to Scotland to meet with Camilla, then-Duchess of Cornwall, to discuss her book club.
The interview, which had been a year in the planning, was scheduled to happen on Thursday afternoon, just hours before the queen’s death was announced.

I don’t give a hoot about any of these morning/daytime television personalities and I don’t watch any of them, but I hope this steams Oprah and Gayle. Those two will never get interviews with the new king and queen and Prince and Princess of Wales.
We don’t know the status of the Queen’s health or their interactions up until this point.
My own mother is almost bed-ridden and slowly failing. I know that she will likely be dead sooner than later. I’ve already accepted the inevitable, so my mood is not going to change much when she actually does pass on.
He likely already did his grieving some time before her passing.

My mother in law was 99 when she died. It was out of the blue. I am not sure what I was doing the night before…but her death was not on anyone’s mind.

My hubby’s doctor has them on the TV and hubs is miserable!
How is it tone deaf, this is discussing his mood the day before his mother died when there were no indications that she was very unwell. Why wouldn’t he be in a good mood.
I think the “tone-deaf” part is Jenna’s use of the word “joyful”. There was nothing wrong with them having a pleasant time. It was a poor choice of words on her part.
Reminder: Jenna is the “smart one”.

I have heard some speculation the Queen passed overnight in her sleep and it was quite unexpected. And it took most of the day to notify all of the relatives, and that’s why it took so long to officially announce it.
