A horse that went missing in Prunedale was found Friday, nearly two weeks after it was reported stolen.

The horse's owner, Jennifer Moore-Gardoni, discovered her horse missing on the morning of Aug. 18. The Monterey County Sheriff's Department got involved and it was being investigated as a stolen horse.

On Friday, Sept. 2, the horse, "Rocky," was discovered on the property of the owner by an observant Pacific Gas and Electric employee. Jennifer posted the discovery on her Facebook profile, "Thank god for PG&E! The guy came out to look at the power lines. He had to walk way back into some gnarly brush. He came back to the house and told me a horse was stuck in a hole!"

North Monterey County Firefighters and the SPCA For Monterey County were at the property within minutes assisting in the rescue. Rocky was stuck in a mud hole under a downed tree. Animal rescuers had to cut the tree before removing Rocky from the hole.

Remarkably, once Rocky made it out he was able to stand on his own, "I was shocked that he could stand! But on shaky legs, Rocky fought his way out!" said Moore-Gardoni.

Officials believe Rocky was able to survive two weeks on the water that was in the hole where he was stuck.

Rocky is now back at home and getting fed small amounts of bran and hay every four hours. His lab work looks good overall with the exception of his muscle enzyme levels.

…horse thought to have been stolen

Otherwise it suggests the person who found the horse thought it was stolen.

She shouldn’t have animals if she can’t be bothered to look on her own property for them.

It’s so scorching hot and dry for months...how can there be a mud hole anywhere in this part of the state?

It’s pretty pathetic she couldn’t find the horse on her own property, huh? It’s not like she owns a 100,000 acre ranch.

I’ve done plenty of searches for cows & calves. Does not end until there is a conclusion.

Have found bulls (neighbors) that jumped a fence and did not know how to go back.
