Yes. In your comment #30, that image looks like several of the gas explosions we’ve seen in the news over the years. Thanks!
I agree, you can see the precursor flash at or near ground level and the pressure wave goes up in the air shaped by the the basement.
Was it “Taco Tuesday” in the neighborhood?
“The gas company has to shut off the mains when a leak causes an explosion”
No they don’t. In a situation like this they run the tapper down on the service tee, then cut/cap the service with a steel locking cap (if steel service line) or a Deadman if it’s a HDPE (plastic) line.
IF it was an explosion on the main itself, then they shut the main off.
If it was a leak on the main, and the gas migrated to the house, there still isn’t a need to shut off the main. The gas company can catch it hot (blowing gas) or they can set up a bypass with stopper fittings to make the repairs. This all depends on pressures, pipe size, crew resources, company SOP, etc.
Couple had a regular table at the local flea market and the husband is a volunteer with the high school team managing video, etc...
Wonder what all they sold at the flea market.
Gas company reportedly said no evidence of gas.
