Two top Senate Republicans want answers on a controversial summer 2020 FBI briefing, as whistleblower disclosures claim the bureau improperly labeled evidence on Hunter Biden “disinformation” around the same time.
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray this week asking for more details about an Aug. 2020 briefing on alleged Russian influence efforts that he says were pushed on him and then leaked to the press to hurt his investigation into Joe and Hunter Biden. Whistleblowers revealed to him recently that FBI officials were undercutting or burying facts about President Joe Biden’s son around the same time.
FBI supervisory intelligence analyst Brian Auten opened an assessment in Aug. 2020 that “was used by a FBI Headquarters team to improperly discredit negative Hunter Biden information as disinformation and caused investigative activity to cease,” according to whistleblower disclosures.
“Importantly, it’s been alleged to my office that Auten’s assessment was opened in August 2020, which is the same month that Senator Johnson and I received an unsolicited and unnecessary briefing from the FBI that purportedly related to our Biden investigation and a briefing for which the contents were later leaked in order paint the investigation in a false light,” Grassley told Garland and Wray on Monday.

Troubled first son Hunter Biden’s daughter Naomi Biden will hold her wedding ceremony this fall on the South Lawn of the White House.
“Sooo not sure how best to update but was supposed to do so weeks ago…but we have finally figured out where the ceremony will be…and much to the relief of secret service and with the dogs’ endorsement…we’ll be getting married on the South Lawn!” Naomi Biden said in a posting on her Twitter page.
“Couldn’t be more excited,” she said, linking to a picture of the South Lawn.
The granddaughter of President Biden will wed her fiancé, Peter Neal, at the White House on Nov. 19, first lady Jill Biden’s office announced in April.
“The First Family, the couple, and their parents are still in the planning stages of all of the wedding festivities and look forward to announcing further details in the coming months,” the announcement said.

New reporting by The Post on Thursday revealed that a business associate of Hunter Biden referred to his father as “the Big Guy” shortly after the tabloid published a blockbuster story in October 2020 about the first son’s overseas business entanglements.
The information for the report came from emails, texts and documents found on the laptop computer that Hunter Biden abandoned at a computer repair shop in Delaware in 2019.

All hell broke loose in Biden World the day The Post broke the first bombshell email from Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop, on Oct. 14, 2020, three weeks before the presidential election his father would win.
“BIDEN SECRET E-MAILS” read the front page exclusive, revealing a 2015 email from an executive at the corrupt Ukrainian energy firm Burisma, thanking Hunter for introducing him to Hunter’s then-VP father in Washington.
“Dear Hunter, thank you for inviting me to DC and giving an opportunity to meet your father and spent [sic] some time together,” wrote Burisma board adviser Vadym Pozharskyi on April 17, 2015, less than a year after Joe Biden had forced the Ukrainian government to fire the prosecutor investigating the corrupt company that was paying Hunter $1 million a year.
The story put the lie to Joe’s repeated claims that he knew nothing about his son’s overseas business dealings — and risked sinking his presidential campaign.
But as soon as it broke online at 5 a.m., panicked phone calls and messages started flying between Hunter’s business partners and their advisers, even as social media giants Facebook and Twitter moved to censor the story and lock The Post’s account, while candidate Biden went into hiding.

In one communication that day, Hunter’s then-business partner James Gilliar, a former British Special Forces officer with ties to UK intelligence services, “calmly reassures an unnamed person who is concerned that “a Senate committee, the DOJ” might start investigating Hunter’s foreign deals and then “Hunter and/or Joe or Joe’s campaign [will] fire a shot at us.”
This goes against Biden’s previous claim that he did not know anything about his son’s business dealings.
“The big man” was expected to receive a 10% profit from Hunter’s deal.

“It would be crazy to do that with all the information and all the facts we have [but what happens if] they try to make it ‘Oh, we were never involved. That was [Joe Biden’s brother] James’ idea . . . and try to basically make us collateral damage?” the person asks Gilliar in a message provided by a whistleblower to Republican congressional investigators and obtained by The Post.
Gilliar is unconcerned about potential backlash from the Biden family and Joe’s campaign: “I don’t see how that would work for them,” he replies.
“I think in the scenario that he wins they would just leave sleeping dogs lie.
“If they lose, honestly, I don’t think that the Big Guy really cares about that because he’ll be too busy focusing on all the other s–t he is doing.”

The communication, obtained by The Post Wednesday, is significant because it bolsters the claim by ex-Hunter business partner Tony Bobulinski that the Big Guy was a code name for Joe Biden.
The reason the identity of the “Big Guy” is important is because it adds to the weight of evidence suggesting that Joe Biden not only knew about Hunter’s international influence-peddling scheme, but allegedly was cut in for a slice of the profits.
In an email written by Gilliar to Hunter on May 13, 2017, the “Big Guy” was allocated a 10% stake in a lucrative joint venture with Chinese energy conglomerate CEFC.
“10 [percent] held by H[unter] for the Big Guy,” Gilliar wrote.
Many have criticized the slow speed of the investigation and accused the DOJ of stalling.
The investigation into Hunter Biden has reportedly reached a “critical stage.”

Three years later, Bobulinski, a Navy veteran, held a press conference to say “there is no question” that the “Big Guy” is Joe Biden.
“Hunter Biden called his dad ‘the Big Guy’ or ‘my Chairman,’ and frequently referenced asking him for his sign-off or advice on various potential deals that we were discussing,” Bobulinski said in October 2020.

Joe was called the “Big Guy” in other emails on Hunter’s laptop or in WhatsApp messages on Bobulinski’s phones. In one case, a Serbian associate of Hunter, Vuk Jeremic, past president of the UN General Assembly, who was on a $330,000 retainer from CEFC, referred to Joe as “Big Man.”
The identity of the “Big Guy” is important enough to form a part of the grand jury investigation in Delaware into Hunter’s business dealings. At least one witness has been asked who the “Big Guy” is.

Gilliar warned Bobulinski, in a WhatsApp message on May 20, 2017, about the need for discretion: “Don’t mention Joe being involved, it’s only when u are face to face, I know u know that but they are paranoid.”

Based in the Czech Republic, Gilliar was dubbed “MI6” by Bobulinski, after the British foreign intelligence service, because of Gilliar’s covert manner. He also told Hunter he had worked with British intelligence and introduced a prospective partner in Oman as “former MI Six head of region” in the Middle East. Gilliar wanted to hire the former British “diplomat” David Holtom to help with an Oman energy project they were working on for CEFC.
The MI6 angle is intriguing because another British spy, Christopher Steele, was at the center of the Russia collusion scheme cooked up by Hillary Clinton’s campaign to paint Donald Trump as a Russian agent. Steele was the former head of MI6’s Russia desk.
In a biography on Hunter’s laptop, Gilliar gives his background as “specialist training in Civil / Military security operations and analysis, counter terrorism, close protection and firearms, armed and unarmed combat” with expertise in “security and intelligence-based analytics and systems.”
His first appearance on the laptop is a Feb. 23, 2016, email CC’d to Hunter discussing his upcoming visit to Beijing to meet with the CEFC board and pitch a takeover of US Westinghouse Electric Corporation.
Merrick Garland’s lack of action on Hunter Biden has been widely criticized.
The FBI has had Hunter Biden’s laptop since 2019.

Gilliar would become the driving force behind Hunter and uncle Jim Biden’s multimillion-dollar payments from CEFC.
Through 2015, 2016 and 2017, Gilliar traveled the world, using the Biden name to open doors for CEFC in Oman, Romania, Georgia, Kazakhstan and beyond. Sometimes he was accompanied by Hunter, Jim or another business partner, Rob Walker, a Biden family friend and former Clinton-administration official whose wife, Betsy Massey Walker, was Jill Biden’s assistant when Jill was second lady.
2015 meeting with mogul
The first evidence on the laptop of a meeting between Hunter and CEFC’s billionaire chairman, Ye Jianming, is in late 2015. A meeting with Ye and his associated, CEFC Executive Director Jianjun Zang, was scheduled in Hunter’s diary for Dec. 7, 2015.
“Dinner with CEFC” was in Hunter’s diary on Aug. 11, 2016, at Café Milano in Georgetown, DC, an Italian restaurant where he entertained foreign clients.

Joe went to at least one such Café Milano dinner when he was vice president, on April 16, 2015, when he met with Hunter’s Ukrainian benefactor Pozharskyi, emails on the laptop show. Also invited to the dinner to meet the VP that night was Russian billionaire Yelena Baturina.
The national security implications are staggering.
Joe Biden repeatedly has said that he knew “nothing about my son’s overseas business dealings.”
But the laptop is full of evidence to the contrary. The FBI has had possession of the laptop since December 2019, when laptop repair-shop owner John Paul Mac Isaac handed it over.

“Highly credible” whistleblowers have come forward to a senior Senate Republican alleging a widespread effort within the FBI to downplay or discredit negative information about President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, according to letters reviewed by CBS News.
“The information provided to my office involves concerns about the FBI’s receipt and use of derogatory information relating to Hunter Biden, and the FBI’s false portrayal of acquired evidence as disinformation,” GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley wrote FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland on July 25. “The volume and consistency of these allegations substantiate their credibility and necessitate this letter.”
Grassley, the ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said the whistleblowers alleged that legitimate streams of information and intelligence about the president’s son were characterized as likely disinformation or prematurely shut down leading up to the 2020 presidential election.

At least 14 of Hunter Biden’s business associates met with Joe Biden while he was vice president, according to a new report. President Biden has denied speaking to his son about his overseas business dealings.
According to Obama White House visitor logs and emails from Hunter Biden reviewed by Fox News, the first son’s foreign business associates from China, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Russia, and Ukraine met with Biden when he was the vice president of the United States.
On Feb. 26, 2014, Miguel Aleman Velasco and Miguel Aleman Magnani reportedly visited the Obama-Biden White House. The Mexican business partners of Hunter Biden were allegedly given a private tour of the White House Brady Press Briefing room by then-Vice President Biden.
In April 2014, Hunter emailed David Lienemann – Biden’s official photographer – to ask for photos of the meet-and-greet.
Hunter wrote, “Do you have pictures from the lunch I had in dad’s office (I think on 2/26) with Miguel Alleman Sr. And Jr. And Jeff Cooper? If so let me know and I can send someone to pick them up. Thanks. How was Kiev?”
A month later, Cooper even asked Hunter, “Any luck on getting those other pics from the WH [White House]-Alem?n visit? Or getting a few signed for Miguel and his dad?”
Cooper was an attorney who worked with the late Beau Biden and was Hunter’s business associate. Cooper was the managing partner of SimmonsCooper – an Illinois law firm that specializes in representing asbestos victims. SimmonsCooper donated nearly $200,000 to Joe Biden’s political campaigns, the Los Angeles Times reported in 2008.
Biden’s brother James and Hunter utilized SimmonsCooper in 2006 to purchase a group of hedge funds known as Paradigm. The Biden’s later repaid SimmonsCooper $1 million after the deal fell through with the law firm.
Cooper and Hunter Biden started working together in February 2013, when Cooper reportedly emailed Bidden: “This is setting up to be flippin gigantic brother.”
Hunter reportedly wanted to work with Carlos Slim – who at the time was the largest stakeholder of the New York Times and the second-richest person in the world.
In 2014, Hunter was reportedly able to secure a private meeting with then-Vice President Biden for Carlos Slim, Miguel Alem?n Velasco, and Alem?n Magnani – the CEO of Interjet airline and the grandson of the former Mexican President Miguel Alem?n Vald?s.
Hunter allegedly set up another meeting between his father and Slim on Oct. 30, 2015.
Photos allegedly found on Hunter’s abandoned laptop show another meeting with then-Vice President Biden in Washington, D.C., dated Nov. 19, 2015, with Slim, Magnani, Velasco, Cooper, and Hunter.
Hunter and Cooper allegedly flew on Air Force 2 to Mexico City when his father was to meet then-President of Mexico Enrique Pena Nieto.
“We are arriving late tonight on Air Force 2 to MX City. We will be there for Thursday – I’m attending meeting w/ President N w/ Dad. Jeff [Cooper] is with me on lane and we will be with us all day,” Hunter reportedly wrote on Feb. 24, 2016.
However, Magnani allegedly went “silent,” which caused Hunter to lash out.
“I have brought every single person you have ever asked me to bring to the F’ing White House and the Vice President’s house and the inauguration and then you go completely silent,” Hunter reportedly wrote to Magnani in an email. “I don’t know what it is that I did but I’d like to know why I’ve delivered on every single thing you’ve ever asked – and you make me feel like I’ve done something to offend you.”
Hunter wrote to Cooper on July 24, 2018, “Spoke to my dad about ‘Slim ask.’” Cooper allegedly replied, “Oh that sounds SO F’ING GOOD.”
Joe Biden also allegedly met with Rosemont Seneca Partners president Eric Schwerin. Rosemont Seneca Partners was an investment company founded in 2009 by Hunter, Christopher Heinz – stepson of former Secretary of State John Kerry – and Devon Archer – an American businessman who was classmates with Heinz at Yale University.
Biden met with Schwerin on Nov. 17, 2010, in the West Wing, according to the New York Post.
Biden also met with Schwerin and former Columbia President Andr?s Pastrana Arango at Joe’s Naval Observatory residence on March 2, 2012, according to an entry in Hunter’s personal calendar, obtained by the New York Post.
The Post reported, “The logs also reveal that Schwerin met with various close aides of both Joe and Jill Biden at key moments in Hunter’s life when he was striking multi-million dollar deals in foreign countries, including China.”
Schwerin made at least 27 visits to the White House while Biden was the vice president, Fox News found.
Records on the infamous laptop claimed that Joe Biden met with Hunter’s business associates from Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Russia at a private “Garden Room” at the Caf? Milano restaurant in Washington, D.C., on April 16, 2015.
Fox News reported, “The dinner’s guest list, according to an email from Hunter to his business partner Devon Archer, included Vadym Pozharskyi, an executive at Ukrainian oil and gas company Burisma Holdings, where Hunter served as a board member. The guest list also included the late Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov and his wife, Russian billionaire Yelena Baturina, who was in business with Hunter’s Rosemont firm, though it is not clear whether they actually attended the dinner.”
The following day, Hunter received an email from Pozharskyi that allegedly read, “Dear Hunter, thank you for inviting me to DC and giving an opportunity to meet your father and spent some time together. It’s realty an honor and pleasure.”
At the time, Hunter was being paid $83,333 a month to sit on its board.
In 2001, the New York Post published a photo of the alleged meeting.
In June 2019, Hunter told the New Yorker that he introduced his father to one of his Chinese business partners in December 2013. Hunter introduced his then-vice president father to Jonathan Li – who ran the Chinese private-equity fund Bohai Capital.
Francis Person – a top adviser to Biden when he was a senator and the vice president until 2014 – worked with Hunter and Schwerin in business deals. In 2016, Person became the president of the Harves Group – a Chinese company whose founder has ties to high-ranking members of the Chinese Communist Party.
Person visited the White House at least seven times between 2015 and 2016, including during a holiday reception in December 2015 with Chinese executive Bo Zhang, according to official White House logs.
In a 2016 email, Hunter Biden referred to Zhang as his “good friend and business colleague.”
Tony Bobulinski – a former Navy lieutenant and business partner of Hunter Biden – claimed that he met Joe Biden in May 2017.
Bobulinski is the former CEO of SinoHawk Holdings LLC – “a global investment firm seeded with $10 million of Chinese money that would buy projects in the US and around the world ‘in global and/or domestic infrastructure, energy, financial services and other strategic sectors,” according to the New York Post. The Jim and Hunter Biden joint venture would be half owned by Chinese oil tycoon Ye Jianming – the chairman of CEFC China Energy Company Limited. Jianming disappeared in March 2018, after he was under investigation for suspected economic crimes, according to Reuters.
Bobulinski wrote an email to Joe Biden’s brother Jim on May 2, 2017, “Great to meet u and spend some time together, please thank Joe for his time, was great to talk thx Tony b.”
In 2019, Joe Biden declared, “I have never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings.”
Of Joe Biden’s denial of being involved with his son’s business dealings, Bobulinski told Tucker Carlson that it’s a “blatant lie.”
Bobulinski told Fox News in October 2020, “I’ve seen Vice President Biden saying he never talked to Hunter about his business. I’ve seen firsthand that that’s not true, because it wasn’t just Hunter’s business, they said they were putting the Biden family name and its legacy on the line.”
